  • Is there really a point where your humanity can die in everyone?

In part this is being brought up because of the shooter that killed those women in the gym, but also because of shows/movies that I've watched recently where people have just snapped. I think we've all seen them. For example the punisher. Watches his whole family killed and he goes and decides that they must all die, and does it. And in some cases it doesn't matter whose in the person's way.

And we've seen it on TV as well. I mean people going after people in a court room, and if it wasn't for the police and other's trying to stop them they would probably kill them with their barehands.

Of course some people snap over what seem like bizarre reasons, others can snap for survival, and others over tragic events. But do you think everyone has that point of where they can just shut down and do horrible things?

Absolutely. I've always believe that under the correct circumstances, anyone can kill. What those conditions are may be different for everyone, but everyone has the capability to do it when they feel necessary.
Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers

I'm not prone to any form of anger. I may still "snap" as it were, but it would be a calculated choice to commit atrocity.
That may sound odd coming from a guy that sometimes picks up worms from the sidewalk so they don't die. But if someone hurt one of my cats, I would exact a terrible revenge upon them. I wouldn't if someone hurt my lifemate, because I would have to hold her back first.

I'm extremely non-confrontational. That said, I'm also extremely loyal, and you do not fuck with my friends or my family. And if some kid in my classroom tried to pull a Virginia Tech, I'd do everything I could to protect my students. I could definitely see that switch getting flipped under certain circumstances.

You know to add something for the debate. Killing someone isn't really the part. Because if you're in trouble I think someone could easily kill someone without even thinking about it. Like if you were trying to escape from someone, or someone was shooting at you.

I think for the debate I'm wondering if you think everyone can at a breaking point decide that a person, group of people, etc deserve and need to die.
