For at least the first year an infant's skull is actually not solidified like an adult's is; there are minute creases in the skull that later grow and solidify together as the child ages. This is to facillitate the whole process of giving birth (as the skull needs to fit through the vagina which can only expand so far). The entire skeleton is not 'cured' the way an adult's is because it's still growing, still changing before it settles into its final adult stages. To say nothing of the internal tissues and organs that are much more fragile than an adult's...

A child that young can sustain serious damage if struck hard enough by someone far bigger than him/her, someone who has not only size but sheer biological power (i.e., muscle) on their side. It doesn't even have to be intentional harm - the simple fact is, hit something weaker hard enough, whether by accident or intent, that weaker being WILL get the losing end of the stick.

We may or may not be hearing the full story; that really doesn't matter, because this waste of DNA has clearly proven himself to be nothing more than a bully. And, well, smacking bullies around, now THAT I have no problem with.

You know, I've had the urge to slap the snot out of a parent of a screaming kid, but not, ya know, the kid.

I too have that urge; so far, I haven't carried it out. XD I have sworn at stupid parents before, and a couple of times at misbehaving children, but I'd never hit a child. For one thing, that would just put you in the wrong.

This guy might have been provoked by a screaming child and an entitled mother, but the moment he struck the child he put himself beyond the pale.

Are you serious? Do you think anyone is ever justified in physically assaulting a child (not just physical punishment, i.e. spanking, but actual assault), especially a child they have never met and are not related to? I don't care if the mother was a raging bitch who said her kid can cry as much as she damn well pleases...no one has the right to assault a two year old like that. That guy is a raging douchewaffle who deserves some serious time in jail.

I am expecting my first child, and I swear if anyone so much as laid a hand on him/her in a wrong way, they'd be missing that arm at the shoulder. Consequences be damned.

I cannot stand children, hate the noises they make, avoid being around them if at all possible, and I think that what that man did was inexcusable and unquestionably wrong.

Say something to the parent? Sure. Complain to store management? Sure. Put on your big boy pants and leave if it's too much? Sure. Hit a child? WTF? In what universe is that an option? I've cut short shopping trips because I couldn't take the noise (that's what I get for going to MegaLoMart the week before school starts), but it's my issue. I wouldn't even dream of punching the parent (unless there are some seriously extreme circumstances, and I can't even think of what those would be), let alone a random screaming kid. Not OK. No excuse. End of story.

I, too, have fled MegaloMart (on the rare, rare occasion I go there)...usually due to noise and crowds. I hate both. Main reason I avoid the place.

It's funny...this topic has been the hot topic of the day to everyone I have had more than five minutes of conversation with all day. Both parents brought it up, and so did the husband.

What I don't get about the story is what was Mom doing while all this was going on? I mean, I know she called the cops and everything, but I can't imagine her just standing by.

My dad is about my size and he's the nastiest, most pugilistic bastard in the hemisphere when it comes to "his girls" (me, my sister, my mother, my kid, my grandmother, etc.) You mess with any of us, my dad would kill. I don't mean that figuratively.
