This was something I was told by a family friend in my quest for a job. One place I am applying to hasn't called me back yet and when I was talking to said family friend he just said "Let someone who deserves a job get it. You're well off as it is." I took offense to this and said "Uh, no. The way it should be is based on qualifications, the desire to get it, and the ability to rise up to the challenge, not someone who probably screwed up at work and got fired."
Should the way things are given out be based on a person and the circumstances that say "Hey, this guy is going through this right now and the other guy isn't so let's give it to the first guy." Or should it be; "Hmm, this gentleman has the desire to get what he's aiming for and he has risen up to the challenge let's go for him."
I'm for the latter option.
