I'd like to point out that when I (and presumably GK) say "right wing" we're saying it from a Canadian perspective. That means Obama, the "liberal," probably wouldn't even be qualified for the Conservative Party, as he'd be too extreme right. So our "average" right winger is not your average right-winger. Keep that in mind.Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

I'm still confused as to why people are so upset! I know some very, very intelligent right wingers, and they're just in a frenzy over this and I don't get it. I could understand if he was going to rant about <insert sensitive, volatile political issue here> but it sounds like he's just saying "stay in school and work hard"...

Because I live under a rock, I have just discovered that part of the problem is because of this "hitler youth" (not my wording) kind of thing going on with children singing songs about Obama. I think people fail to see the difference that Reichsführer Himmler isn't going to take their families away if they don't sing. I'm sure somewhere there's a video of children singing about Bush or Reagan, too, but I don't hear people bitching about that.

Someone's gotta be the bigger person. I didn't have any issue with what Obama said in his speech. I guess the real controversy was over the lesson plan that was scheduled to go along with it, but was scrapped.
Oh, and a republican got blasted for doing the same thing.
So, if everyone would just stop with the petty, partisan politics, I'd be a lot happier.Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan today so if you ever miss a payment they can take your home away.

Sad thing is, it's this way because people are too lazy to go out and learn about someone who is not a Republican or Democrat. The media sees this and will only speak on the major candidates from the RNC and DNC.
But here it is, yes some people were going off the deep end completely about Obama's speech. Here's another thing, the people going off on the people going off about Obama's speech are getting the reason why people are objecting to it wrong. It was because of the supposed material that the students were supposed to work on after hearing the speech. That has been dropped and most people will say that it was a very good, inspirational speech. But due to the controversy of the lesson plan after the speech, that part has been dropped. Probably wisely slow. Inspire the kids. I don't think they need a lesson plan built around a speech.
Next, for anyone getting upset about people getting upset about Obama's speech need to kindly look to the past. Especially if they say no one ever paid attention to any of the other speech and gave that respective president a hard time over it. That's just not fact.
I'm tell you, I'm running for President.Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan today so if you ever miss a payment they can take your home away.

I hate to say it FL, but your party has been hijacked and until the reasonable people like you can reclaim control it will be judged by the nutjobs like the people in Utah who refuse to accept that a black man is a president."I'm Gar and I'm proud" -slytovhand

My party?!?! What the hell? When did I ever claim to be a republican?! I'm a registered Independent, but my beliefs are more in line with the Libertarians. Don't make assumptions because I make a pissed off remark about the hypocrisy of the democrats. And I'm mad as hell that republicans are pulling the same shit.
I'm also just merely pointing out what *most* people had a problem with and that was the lesson plan. The *sane* ones are the ones that got over it when he dropped the lesson plan. But, people in this thread have brought up other Presidents doing the same thing with no issue from anyone, which is absolute bullshit. And Utah can not be made as an example of the entire country. Utah is still very much a racist state. That's not changing anytime soon. So don't use your state as the barometer of what other states must be feeling, that's just a piss poor example. Your state is special.
I do love the fact that just because I tend to have more conservative beliefs, people will group me with the RNC. Do you know why I love it? Because it's back to the petty, partisan politics. I hate both DNC and RNC. Both of them are corrupt, both of them are full of hypocrites.Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan today so if you ever miss a payment they can take your home away.

Yes, the lesson plan was badly worded and was corrected. But the white noise manufactured outrage was and is insane. As it is every time Obama attempts to do anything. The GOP is fucking crazy now, honestly and they represent the right wing in the US. Whether you like it or not. =/
You have such a locked in two party system that its honestly rather damaging when one side has degraded into idiocy like this. Because there is no reasoning or debate or valid objections to the democrats policies being discussed. Its always this constant noise machine that drowns out any sort of relevant politics.
Its even more aggravating when 98% of these tardcannons you see crawling out of the woodwork at Fox New's call don't even know what socialism, facism or Nazism really is.
They're not conservatives, they're lunatics. I have no problem with conservatives. -.-
