  • Obama's Speech To Schoolchildren

Parents are getting worked up over Obama's speech on how kids should work hard and study to achieve their goals in life thinking that the speech he'll give will be more about politics. WTF?!!! Is it just me or is the majority of the world just getting dumber and dumber.

Here's the link to the article: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/loc...,3672433.story

The commentary cartoon about Obama's speech by Chan Lowe: http://blogs.trb.com/news/opinion/chanlowe/blog/
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people...

The so-called Right Wing and their mouthpieces in the media are so absurd nowadays, if Obama discovered the cure for cancer they would try to vilify him.. somehow. The Pres hasn't even made his speech yet, and some rightwingers (http://mediamatters.org/columns/200909030002) are urging parents to keep their kids away from school that day. What a crock!

This is a perfect example of why the right wing nutjobs Are making me shake my head.

Obama: "Lets get the children of the nation actually involved in their education and in the political process."

RWNJ: "OBAMA'S TRYING TO INDOCTRINATE OUR CHILDREN INTO HIS NAZI REGIME!!!! HERE'S PROOF HE'S HITLER!!! RUN FOR IT!!!!"

I honestly wish I was making that up.

Today in school, we had to give a letter to parents that included an opt-out slip that parents can sign if they do not wish to have their child watch the speech.

Most of my students shoved the paper in their bookbag or in the trash after lamenting the waste of paper by the "nutjobs who are too PC". Their words, not mine.

My county even sent us an email about our "official position."

Don't tell that to the Right Wing. They'll scream that those kids weren't really kids, but plants, scary secret commie-socialist-aliens in disguise designed to make the RW look bad. As if they needed any help.

Not the world, just America. Believe me when I say the rest of us are just watching in awe at this point.

As for Obama's speech.....yeah, you'd have to be functionally retarded to come to any of the conclusions the average right winger has. I mean by Canadian politics I'm fairly middle of the road. By American politics I'm a Nazi. How does that work? Hell they don't even know what a Nazi is for Christ sakes. Never mind what Socialism actually is.

They really live in a completely different world than the rest of us ( That bottom right wing 24% ). Its not just the incredible and stunning ignorance, but how fucking proud they are of it. Its mind boggling at times. No concept of their own country, no concept of the world and content in this little pseudo revisionist history echo chamber they've carved out for themselves that Fox news says is ok.

Its one thing to be ignorant, its another to have absolutely no interest in doing anything about it.

At least the White House has finally reached the point where they're going "Ok now you're just being ridiculous.". They really need to just start ignoring the raging stupidity entirely or calling it on its insanity. If their arguments started getting countered with "No, that's stupid and blatantly false, next question" on a daily basis maybe they'll putter out.

Treating them with any sort of actual consideration of their insane viewpoints gives them justification to keep doing it.

Well...they are theatre students and theatre is notoriously far left. Instead of teaching the lesson I had planned for the last 10 min of their class, we talked about why this was even an issue. They just couldn't understand how a speech about setting goals and doing well in school could cause so much upheaval from the right.

The conclusion they came to is that it's because Obama is giving the speech and he's black. If it had been Bush, this wouldn't be a problem.

              I love my students.

George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan both gave speeches to school kids. Of course, that was different, because a Republican was doing it. Of course, those two events happened in different times. Granted, they weren't too long ago, but they were still different times, back when the GOP was different than it is now.

                  HAHAHAHA! You guys are funny.

Stop grouping right-wingers into the same category is extreme right-wingers. Few things piss me off more. I'm right leaning, (more centric than most of you people here from what I can tell so far) and I'm not all up in arms about this. So, to group a few fringe nut jobs with me, pisses me off.

err, what? You're not an extremist, but you're probably one of the furthest-right people on the board.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

Did anyone actually say that? =p I see right wing mouthpieces ( Who are insane, mind you ), right wing nutjobs and my reference to the bottom 24% ( the lunatics that think Saddam had WMDs ). At this point I look at actual conservatives/right wingers as different from Republicans. Because the GOP has pretty much been taken over by this lunacy now. If they have any sane voices left they're being drowned out by the white noise.

Maybe I don't understand "average right winger" means. Is that another way of saying "fringe right winger"?

I consulted my dictionary and average does not mean the same as fringe.

Hmm! Like the good right-winger I am, I'm showing a liberal the light. I'm a right leaning Libritarian though..... so, don't feel too bad

The average right winger south of the border right now is off their rocker or at least grossly misinformed. Fox news is the highest rated news network now ><

Like I said the Real(tm) conservatives are just being drowned out in the insanity.
