  • Criminally Insane Killer Escapes Fair

    Here.

Basically, a man who was acquitted by reason of insanity in 1987 of the murder of an elderly woman was taken on a field trip to the fair by the mental hospital where he is a patient. This is not his first escape attempt.

Administrators allegedly waited two whole hours to notify law enforcement.

Should he have been allowed to go to a public event like that fair, considering his violent criminal past and history of attempted escapes? Would prohibiting him from going on the field trip have been wrongfully discriminatory?

I don't think not allowing him to go on the trip would be discriminatory at all. The guy is a big flight risk and is criminally insane. Plus there's been several instances of him being on and off of his meds and his behavior that's proven that he is not fit for normal society at all.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people...

There is no way in hell this is anything but a planned escape, with palms greased on both sides of the fence.

Escape attempts should = high security risk = no leaving the premises. I'd be tempted to agree with RK, planned, probably some bribes, especially if the delay is true.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

My feeling is that every element of this story is so over the top there is no way it was accident or stupidity.

Sure, there is plenty of stupidity out there, and we all know it, but come on.

It was over the top before we even get to the delay in alerting authorities. The delay just makes it beyond belief. The only logical way to explain what happened would be if it was all deliberate and planned.

I'm too firmly rooted in "Never ascribe to malice what can adequately be explained by idiocy" to fall for your use of "logic" missy And until the delay, everything is easily explainable by massive levels of stupidity. The delay, however, reeks of people knowing they screwed up and scrambling to cover their ass. To exploit all that idiocy would just take one person on the outside colluding with one person on the inside, possibly through bribery or some such. I doubt we'd ever actually hear of it though. It'd be kept so far under wraps that we'd find Hoffa first.

Well, you're right about the stupidity/malice thing. I say that all the time myself. But in this case...man. We're talking some pretty apocalyptic levels of Fail here.

But you're also right in that we may never really hear the truth. There's so much ass covering going on with this that, screw Hoffa, we'll probably find the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant first.

We've already found those. Don't you watch movies? Han Solo and James Bond found the Holy Grail like 20 years ago.
