You know, normally I'd agree with you, but I'd need more info to really condemn this guy.
He wanted to adopt a baby, and that's such a cluster as to be nigh impossible, at least in this country. So he worked out some deal where he could adopt one who, let's face it, would have the worse possible life (if the baby even HAD a life, I would argue the child of someone who would sell him for dope would probably end up dead in pretty short order anyways.)
So he paid her with dope. Big deal, his goal was to get her to sell the child and split, not to rehabilitate her. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Now, granted, he probably should have gone through some channels and worked it out above board, because he had to know his method would have some huge drawbacks.
That messed up article says that he was arrested for selling a child, because he BOUGHT it. Who knew that buying something could get you arrested as a delaer?
Child selling is just the charge that buying and selling is covered under I believe. And I don't blame the guy for wanting to adopt. It's just...well...couldn't he find a better way to do it than to buy one?
Kinda have to agree with Recoveringkinkoid. Mother is...well, as a pregnant woman, I can't imagine selling my child. I can barely afford to do this, but I found myself getting physically nauseous, when I think of getting rid of it.
I feel bad for Mrs. and Mr. Henson, and the child. It doesn't say, but I'd bet, they don't get to keep the child they paid for. Which means that kid gets to go play in the foster system, until it's adopted "properly." How many places do we have where the foster system isn't screwed up, and horrible for the children? Not saying life would have been roses and sweets, with the Hensons, but it'd have been better than hopping from one foster home, to the next, or being stuck with cracked-out mommy.
And now Mr. Henson, has "child selling" on his record, good luck adopting now. *shakes her head* sad
