  • Breast feeding in public

    OK,

Being a Nanny now means that I'm either around woman who have young toddlers/babies who are still breast feeding. And some of the time they will do this in front of me and the other mums.

Majority of the time they are discreet and make sure they are well covered. But there is always one or two who just flops it out and feeds the bub.

I'm well aware that Babies need to be fed. And that I know when I'm a mum I don't want someone to tell me to go home/to the bathroom to feed my child. But I think I would go along the discreet road and make sure all is covered.

Not everyone is comfortable seeing another woman’s boob. Even if there is an infant at the end.

I've never said anything, just looked away and let them do what they need to do.

And then there is this linky should this be band? Or is it just the same as a mother going out in public and feeding their child?

Sorry I took so long to get to the point!

It's Facebook's sandbox, and they get to make the rules. If they say "not just no porn but no nudity at all," I'm sorry, but suck it up and deal.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

I can't watch the video while I'm at work, but if the rule is "no nudity" too bad.
Frankly, I don't understand why someone would share that over such a public forum, but that's just me!

It's kinda like having naked pics of your baby. Great for keepsake, or having one or two cute ones on the wall in the house, but why the hell would you post it on the internet for the world to see?

If FaceBook doesn't want the pictures, then FaceBook doesn't want the pictures. It's their site and their decision. If they didn't want pictures of dogs, then that would be ok (although stupid.)

As far as just breastfeeding in public, I'm fine as long as the mothers are discreet.

On a somewhat on-topic note, this thread reminds me of this episode of Married with Children.

            Hahahaha, true story.

You wouldn't just randomly go around flashing people in public, so why now that you have a kid is it perfectly ok?

And I agree with facebook, no nudity at all. All or none, and I don't think facebook is that kind of website.

              This made me LOL.

I appreciate not seeing nudity on facebook. I think in this case it is best simply to exclude ALL nudity rather than try and enforce different rules for different situations.

And seriously, if you don't like it, use another service.

Trust me moms, no one *wants* to view a photo album of you breastfeeding your kid, anyway.

Nope, that's what people invented fuckbook and such for.

I have no problem with women breastfeeding in public but being discreet is just common courtesy.

If a woman is being discreete, then fine, have at ye. I'd rather your baby was satisfied and quiet rather than hungry and screaming its head off. However, we all have to share this world so we should respect the views of other people.

One thing about this subject that bugs me is when people say, "If you don't want to see me whip my tits out, then don't look!" So, if my boyf and I decide to sit accross from you in the park and have sex, then that's fine too, right? Cuz if you don't want to see us fucking, then don't look? Oh sorry, I forgot that you meant that exclusively for you and that your needs prevail over everyone else's!

My sister in law breastfeeds my niece very discreetly. It honestly just looks like she's giving her baby a cuddle inside her shirt. You honestly wouldn't know. But, then again, my sister in law feels it's a private moment that's not for all to see. Everyone survived for years without breastfeeding in public so I'm not really sure why it's such an issue. Giving birth in public will be the next one probably. O_o

Discreet is a great thing! A kids gotta eat and I can understand that. But discreetly! As in use one of those shirts that you can just get enough boob out to feed the kid. We don't need to see the entire boob and nipple and vagina and whatever else along with it.

The biggest problem I have with people against it: So some people aren't discreet and show a bit of boob. Okay, not everyone wants to see that; point taken. HOWEVER, I see women all the time (1000x more frequently) with tops cut so low they leave little to the imagination (or how about skimpy bikini tops?) No one says a WORD about that. At least not to the point where they want to ban it from public or voice out anywhere near the levels done for public breastfeeding.

Why is is showing a bit of boob while breastfeeding taboo, but showing a bit of boob because of clothing style a-ok?

Either every woman can show a bit of boob regardless of reason, or no one gets to show any boob. Rallying against public breastfeeding but not public display of adamant cleavage is discrimination, IMO.

Because for the indiscreet people, it's not showing a bit of boob. It's pretty much showing the entire thing.

For the record, I don't like to see yawning cleavage, thongs sticking out of builder's cleavage or camel toe either.

And Greenday is right; these people go the whole hog and whip both out; it's not just a bit of cleavage, it's an entire boob.

No matter what these people want to believe, in the Western world, breasts are sexual. I'm aware that the function of the breast is to feed children, but they have been sexualised in modern times and that's an end to it. You only have to see how successfully boys' magazines like Nuts and Loaded sell to see the truth in that matter. Seeing as you can't change the attitude of an entire culture, the only thing you can do is be respectful to other people; an approach that will get you and breastfeeding a lot more respect than ripping your top off Superman style and flinging your tits out.
