  • McDonald's

Since the McDonald's thread in Sightings is getting nasty, I thought I'd move it to here (with the suggestion of a helpful mod . )

Did anyone else hear about the guy who's suing McD's because he ordered a QP WITHOUT cheese, and had to go to the hospital because of his allergic reaction to the cheese they put on his order? I

In this case, both are at fault: McDs employee for NOT making it correctly, and customer for not checking his order.

If I'm allergic to something, I'm going to make damn sure they didn't throw whatever allergy-inducing item onto my food.

if I have an allergy that bad, I wouldn't even order something where there's a risk I could be served it.

I'd also triple or quadruple check my order to make sure the thing I'm deathly allergic to isn't on it. If by some reason I didn't locate the little beasty that I'm allergic to, I'd spit it out on first bite.

Hmm. I haven't heard that one.

I'm also not sure how one would miss the cheese being on the burger, I mean, it sticks out of the burger. Did he perhaps eat it "knowing" they made a mistake and he could fully take advantage of the opportunity to sue?

These days it seems so many people are on the fast train to moneyville using the "I'll sue" technique.

Now, maybe he really didn't see the cheese on the burger, but here I'm going to have to say that if he really did not see it and has his receipt showing that he ordered it without cheese, he's got a case. He shouldn't have to double check that his order is correct. Thats what McDonalds is in the business of, making sure they get the "correct" order out to their customers. Sadly, we've come to accept that we almost "have" to double check our orders and I think the places should be held more accountable when they make mistakes.

I know it pisses me off when I order something from Taco Bell without tomatoes and I get everything with tomatoes. Yeah, I can just pick them off, but should I really have to?

Thats why I loved Hot N' Now's first original policy when they opened. No special orders.

Anytime there's humans involved, mistakes will be made. It's extra scary at my job if a mistake goes out. We all try to be super anal-retentive, but sometimes even with all due diligence, we goof.
So yes, in a perfect world, the guy shouldn't have to check.
In the not-so-perfect world that we live in, FUCKING LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE SHOVING INTO YOUR FUCKING MOUTH.

        Thank you.

Well here's my POV on this:

1: yes it is the goal of the restraunt (which technically mcdonalds is one) to get the order right. It doesnt always happen (especially with mcds) so the customer should double check the order if there is anything or any reason that it matters if the order gets screwed up.

2:Someone like me who goes to mcds for two reason its fast and its cheap and can or will eat almost anythign on their board can grab and go. Someone who is allergic enough to something that they will wind up in the hospital has ten thousand times double the reason and should have the same motivation to check their order before biting into it. The cheese substitute that mcds uses is not that hard or subtle a flavor to recognize and spitting in a life or death situation is perfectly acceptable even by emily post.

3: If for some reason you do decide or are unable to perform the steps necessary to protect your own life when dealing with mcdonalds then you do not deserve to be rewarded for surviving your mistakes. Suing them because you didnt take the time to look, smell, taste or otherwise ascertain if there was cheese or cheese like product on your food substance then thats just another waste of our legal time and money.

4: yes it is rather annoying when the mcds and such of the world get the order wrong and that people have to take the time to get it right or fight for their right to have the right food. But sad to say the priorotiy at these places has switched from good food and good service to quick buck slinging whatever resembles a food substance to hungry herd.

            See, here is the problem.

He ordered it without cheese. Okay no big deal. But when it is served with cheese, why could he just check, to make sure. It is his fault on that one. McD's made a mistake, yes, but the yare only human. That guy is just wanting to get rich fast

As a McD's worker, I know that mistakes can be made, especially if it's not really a "normal" thing to make. "Normally", it's a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Very rarely, will it be no cheese. Maybe the register didn't put it in. Sometimes, while working the register, it doesn't get through to the machine. Stubborn buttons and such. Sometimes, grill people do not read the screen right (especially after a long day at work, during rushes, etc). He could have been given the wrong bag OR he grabbed the wrong bag on the counter (this tends to happen to people with no listening skills or who do not read the receipt under the bag.).

From day one of working, I was told that our goal is to serve good quality food in a short amount of time. It is human to make mistakes and this guy should have looked. At anytime you give up the cooking of your own food, especially to people you don't see, you risk mistakes being made. I ALWAYS check my food before eating when not at home. I highly doubt that he could not see the cheese. The cheese is square. Bun and meat are round. Cheese sticks out.

I'm not trying to defend McD's just because I work there. I'm pointing out the different things that could have led up to his getting the wrong sandwich, which he should have checked earlier before consuming.
"It's after Jeopardy, so it is my bed time."- Me when someone made a joke about how "old" I am.
