What gets me about this guy is firstly his mother lost her house cuz of his eating habits, and secondly, he's now bedridden. The reason he's able to keep on eating loads is cuz his carers feed him giant meals. Now, it's proposed that he has a gastric bypass to save his life.

This however is serious surgery; there's risks involved even if a person is half this guy's weight. At 70 stone, he could die on the operating table. Most people who have this surgery are told to lose a certain amount of weight beforehand to reduce these risks. If this was an anorexic refusing to eat, they'd be forcibly sectioned; yet, a super obese man is allowed to carry on eating and eating, paid for by the taxpayer, and only surgery is offered, even tho it could kill him.

Gastric bypass surgery is not a miracle cure for obesity. If the patient continues with the bad eating habits afterwards, it will not cure them of obesity.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_4799634_weig...s-surgery.html

Sarcastic, but puts the point accross. If this man does live thru his operation, he won't necessarily lose all the weight. He could very easily just continue his lifestyle, with some changes and even put more on.

What solution should be put in place instead?

He's like 9 of me. If he needs the surgery, get it, but change your damn eating habits first. Like Lance mentioned, an anorexric would be force-fed (my cousin was).

In one of the articles he mentioned he needed to change his eating habits and not have snacks....yes...stop having snacks. Addictions are a bitch, but you have to change then they are life-threatening.

Best of luck to him, if he wants to change. If not, meh.

It's gotta be more than that. Either that or he's the heaviest living man, because I'm pretty sure there's been people a couple of people over the 1/2 ton mark. I'd say like 1,200 lbs

correction yup. The heaviest person to ever live was 1,387 lbs, but he died

his caregivers are just as much to blame, if you're too fat too get up you're too fat to eat, if the person cannot get up due to their own girth do not enable them.

I would have gone to a few experts and found what the absolute minimum was that he needed to live and he wouldn't have gotten anything more.

This is coming from someone who is over 300 lbs.

Yeah; I was discussing this guy with my collegues the other day and we were saying how the carers are enablers. His mother was probably one as well, which means it's no wonder he can't help himself.

I'd consider psychiatric assistance as well. It's suicide by a long, painful route. It's self-abuse. He needs to be helped mentally as well as physically.

Absolutely. I'm fat because I choose not to diet enough to get thin again. I have a happier life fat.
I can't accept that being that obese is enjoyable ever. Therefore, it must be some kind of horrible compulsive behavior that deserves pity rather than the scorn others have heaped on him.

I've seen someone like him on a Discovery Health show. It's really terrible, however what is a positive in all this. They had Richard Simmons on an episode of Obesity Ward at Brookhaven, and he really is so compassionate and inspiring to these people. Perhaps he should have a talk with this guy.

I saw in another of those articles people said we was trying to be the world's fattest man, I hope that is just hype.

Ya know, they took records like out of Guinness for pets because people were harming their pets, makin' em fat.

Guinness used to not accept dangerous human records as well.
I wouldn't be surprise if they went back to their shady roots with the well known liar Guinness himself.

I can emphasise with the eating disorder he suffers from; compulsive eating disorder, cuz I suffered from it as a teenager. However, in order for him to be helped psychiatrically and for his life to be saved, he has to WANT to be helped and if he still wants to eat himself to death, I can't really see surgery as being a miracle fix-all as some people are seeing it as.

                            http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...operation.html
A health care insider told The Sun Mr Mason was disappointed when he lost 20 stone in hospital.

'When he left he moaned he was missing the chance of becoming the world's heaviest man,' said the source. 'And when he got home he ordered takeaway pizzas, curries and Chinese meals.'
Unsure about how accurate this is, seeing as the source was found by The Sun but if it's true, it's very worrying. Also in the article is the statement that unless he does something, he has only months to live.

Holy hell!!! O_O Okay, so the guy is beyond morbidly obese from a compulsive disorder, so besides getting the gastric bypass, he should be on some sort of plan to treat that disorder. If hypnosis works to help quit smoking, then I bet it could help with his disorder, right? After all it's mind over matter.
