  • When is it too young to have a baby?

I mean WOW this girl is 11! But this is the norm in some places. And well back in the day she'd probably be considered old!

But anyways. Wow! 11! AND Married to boot! Feel for the baby! The girl is calling her a "new toy" I so hope that the father really helps out and that the parents of this girl help her! Or this child is doomed!

What a waste. Poor child (newborn, not 11 year old). Babies aren't playthings. They aren't there so you can feel needed. They aren't there so you can feel loved. This is just contributing to the welfare problem and further setting up the future generation for poverty.

He met her in the playground. Aw, that's so sweet, that a grown ass man was trolling a playground for a date. Head line should read "child sexually assaulted by park pervert."

          On behalf of the girl

""I'm not going to play with toys anymore — I have a new toy now," she was quoted by the paper as saying. "

I don't think she meant she sees the child as a toy but rather was a not well thought out way of saying she has new things to tend to.

I'm just curious why you express sympathy for the newborn but not the 11 year old? It sounds like she (the 11 year old) may be just as much a victim as the newborn here. She was obviously (IMO) much too young and uneducated to be in a relationship with a 19 year old guy (it says in the article she didn't know what a condom was and didn't realize she could be pregnant until her grandmother brought it up.)

Two conflicting thoughts in my head...

              1) WHY is this 'guy' not in jail?!

              2) Gah that 'guy' that should be in jail has to be the father to the new infant...

I think 1 is winning. *shakes head*. Children having children is not new..but this is probably the youngest I've ever heard of. It will probably get worse though.

This man is 19, and the girl was 10 when he had sex with her. It beggars belief that he thought she was older; he should be arrested and put in prison. I expect that once his new child bride matures, he'll lose interest in her and go find another child to abuse.

Poor girl and poor baby. I feel sorry for both of them. The mother has been robbed of her childhood and will never get it back.

I heard of a six-year-old. But that was decades ago.

I'm not sure what you mean by "worse," though. Do you mean younger? Or that this age will be more common? Or just worse for the girl?

Because there is a hard limit on how young most females can have a kid. Not until they start menstruating. More common? The tendency in educated cultures is for people to be older before having kids, and it's illegal in most Western countries to have sex with anyone under 14 (Why is this guy not in jail, again?). Worse for the girl? Yeah, probably.

I can only imagine how hard labor and delivery have to be for a freaking 11 year old.

As far as generally reported pregnancies and young ages at which pregnancy is more commonly occuring at, I believe 10 is about the threshold. I've read several reports of 10 years old getting pregnant, I even saw a Montel Williams special on one of them some years back.

When I read the article, I didn't see anything that signified that she didn't know she could get pregnant as a result of sex. Her having to have her grandmother guess she was pregnant could just have easily have been her not thinking about pregnancy when she started gaining weight. Women do it all the time.

Maybe in their local culture, they just don't teach anything about that. I knew about sex and stuff before I was 11 years old and that doesn't include what I was taught from teachers and my parents.

That is WAY to young to get married AND have a child, but I guess it's different for some cultures. The girl clearly isn't all that mature (both mentally and physically) to be honest. I would be livid if I had a child that young that was already married and with child!

                              She was five. And still...

As for this one, I personally feel that she hasn't quite got the idea of how much work a baby is.
