I can see where they're coming from. There's so many parents that pull their kids out because "omg sex education = evil" kinda mentality. I got the talk early on from my mom. I mean yeah sure it's awkward to have to talk to your kid(s) about that topic but someday you'll have to. My mom said she was afraid of it becoming traumatic for me, so she consulted professionals and got all the materials she needed to give me the talk but she also allowed us to go through sex ed at school, except for when I had my human anatomy/physiology class on my junior year of high school (that was a given for me). I'll admit I'm a bit afraid and squicked at the thought of having to do that one day if I have kids, I will tell them about the birds and the bees and allow them to get sex ed at school.

I think it's necessary, unfortunately. Mainly because there are still so many parents who cant or wont do their fucking jobs and teach their kids the facts.
Hell, even when I was in catholic grade school in the very early 80s, there were only a handful of parents who didn't allow their kids to participate in the 'sex ed' class. Granted, the class was pathetic, but I distinctly remember there only being a few kids not allowed, which even surprised me at the time.
Nowadays, I wonder if the number has gotten higher or lower. Hmmmm.

That's like saying that it only takes one photon to cause skin cancer. While technically correct, the chances that any one particular will cause it is ludicrous.
Pulling out is on par with condoms. Do you consider condoms useless too?
That seems to be your implication.

Still, that should put us in the same boat proof wise, shouldn't it?
Condoms aren't perfect, and pulling out isn't useless.
Either way, this has been enough thread drift, hasn't it?

Do all of them pull stunts like my mom and try to scare you into thinking you're a heathen who will burn in Hell if you aren't married? Well no, I think most just refuse to even speak of it.....and that's how kids learn about it the wrong way.....from peers and what their peers are doing (which isn't always the smart way).
Just felt I needed to explain that a bit better. I love my mother, I truly do, but she has her moments.Originally posted by blas87 View PostI'm damn glad that I was educated about sex, pregnancy, STDS, and the whole nine yards in school.
Why?
All my mother ever told me was that sex before marriage was evil, blah blah blah blah blah....
Yeah. Good thing I went to school and learned about it.
at least you got the information in school. alll my parents did when I started asking questions about sex was throw some Chatholic "sex-ed" books at me and ran away, saying "If you have any questions, ask (NOT).
in my childhood days, back in the late 60's/early 70's, schools (esp religious schools) would NEVER have gone near sex-ed even if the world was ending. the closest I got was a brief (as in one or two classes) look at the human anatomy in HS biology class. heck even the lifelike "dummies" were sexless uniks (sp) as in no breasts or penis or vagina.
I hate to say this but most of my "sex-ed" came from discarded copies of Penthouse, trading stories with my male friends, and becoming active at age 14 (but still knowing enough to try and use protection)I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.
I got one foot on a banana peel and the other in the Twilight Zone.

The sex ed I got at school was useless. The fifty year old science teacher handed out some condoms to put on bananas, we watched the periods video that we'd all seen in primary school, and the teacher mumbled a few things like "Don't have sex before marriage" and "Boys can tell if you're not a virgin". I learned my sex ed partly from books my mum gave me and partly from the sealed sex sections in magazines like Bliss, Sugar and Just Seventeen. XD
If the sex ed is going to be as described in the article, then that's a good thing. In my class, there were girls who believed that a) having sex standing up meant you wouldn't get pregnant and b) douching with Coke would kill sperm. -.-"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."
