While I don't like the idea of decisions being removed from a parent. When it comes to sex education I really think it's in the best interest of the CHILD that they learn the facts!

Morals and responsibility can be left to the parents if they chose. But really, kids need to know what happens if you don't use a condom, what an STI is and what other changes your body goes through.

I for one know that I was damn confused about it all, but I was fortunate enough to have a mum that was not afraid to explain things to me, and a school that taught us everything there was to know and some! Had a teacher that literally would answer any question you asked! Even the ones that were jokes!

Once a student asked her what the largest penis was in the world. The teacher actually researched it and gave her the answer. She was AWESOME!

I believe you mean the longest penis as I don't think any statistics exist on overall mass or even diameter.

I don't see how that's so amazing. The largest penis belongs to an animal, not a human......

I wouldn't be too sure about that... XD

                I like this.

I went to elementary school in California, where I got extensive sex ed starting in elementary school.

I went to high school in Idaho, where there was no sex ed. In our health class books the section on genitalia and birth control was removed from the textbooks and during the one and only class period that we discussed sex, the principal sat in the back the entire time to make sure the teacher didn't say words she wasn't supposed to...like "abortion".

My Mother worked as a secretary for the school district, so I was privy to certain things. Like the fact that on the school board were several extremely conservative, religious people. They were so conservative they wouldn't even enroll their kids in public schools---they home-schooled them. But they were on the board specifically to control the curriculum of the public schools, to make sure their kids were not influenced by or learned things from publicly schooled kids. They fought tooth and nail to keep sex ed completely out of the public schools, so that their children would never learn anything about the subject from kids who attended them.

WTF!?!? I think that if your not willing to enroll your own child in the school that should disqualify you from the school board

Other places may be different, of course, but here the school board is elected and most of the members are old enough that their kids are grown. It may make a difference that we're a small town with its own independent school system, and a sometimes inordinate amount of pride in it, but I can't see a board member with school-age children not sending them there and still getting elected.

As for sex education, I don't know what they're teaching now, but when I went through it about 20 years ago it covered the basic biology pretty well, and mentioned the fact that abstinence is the only 100% way of preventing both pregnancy and disease, but mainly focused on the various types of birth control, how to use them (no demonstrations, though), failure rates, and reminders that condoms block disease transmission while pills, sponges, etc do not.

Umm, wha? King Arthur was born normally, though his life is that of legend, most specifically his resting place in Avalon.

Darth Vader, if you mean the whole "Anakin died when he betrayed the Jedi to Sidious" thing, then Darth Vader is effectively his Sith name, and not a real bearing on birth.

Adira, hoo boy. You are comparing Vala Mal'doran to Mary? (bloody hell, my life for a laughing smiley) To put it simply, Adira was not a immaculate born child. Vala was simply in the middle of her pregnancy when the Ori infused the child with their power.

Why yes, I am a geek. What's your point?

I may be wrong on arthur (stargate is not the most reliable source for history) but in episode 1 Anakin's mother said that there was no father at all. I'm not comparing Vala to Mary at all, Adria was conceived without sex is what I am saying

Hey LL, if you thought he meant going Anakin to Vader, instead of this, you need your Geek Card retested.
