One thing I can't stand is people trying to use 9/11 as a reason for being patriotic. People go around, saying it's 9/11, we have to go around, thanking all our cops, firefighters, etc. We must be patriotic. 9/11/2001 may have been a terrible day, but come on, maybe we should stop trying to use 9/11 as an excuse for doing that stuff and not doing it any other day. It's been so overdone that people are starting to lost interest in the holiday.

12/7 - A day that means nothing to many Americans. I bet if I went up and down my dorm hall, asking people if they know what day that was, they'd have no clue what happened. 9/11 is most likely going to turn into this.

Do I really have a point with this? No, not really. It just pisses me off to have people everywhere going around, saying how miserable we should be. Reading the post on CS about how SnapAddict218's coworkers thought it a horror that someone wouldn't want to read a poem on 9/11 is a great example.

And then we have...conspirators! I had an hour break between classes today so I decided to watch the episode of South Park where someone drops a deuce in the urinal. I'd completely forgot that it rips on all the conspiracy theories for 9/11. My favorite part of the episode?

Kyle: "Anyone who believes those conspiracies is retarded!"
Cartman: "1/4 of Americans believe in the conspiracies. Are you calling 1/4 of all Americans retarded?"
    Kyle: "Yes, yes I am!"

Seriously, give it up, the government did not commit the horrible acts of 9/11. Bush did not set up the acts of terrorism. No sane person could do that, and despite the fact that I don't like Bush, he isn't a total moron or else he never would have become president. Tons of people also like to claim Bush knew the attacks of 9/11 were coming and he let it happen. Once again, no sane person would let something like that happen if they knew about it in advance. A lot of people claim FDR knew the attack on Pearl Harbor was coming. Once again, no president could morally let this happen.

I guess what fries me about 9/11 hysteria is that people now get all worried and fretful about terrorist attacks, but pay no mind to the fact that something else is going to be far more likely to kill them.
I mean, diabetes, heart disease, and traffic accidents take out FAR more people every year than the planes and towers did. I realize they're not nearly as spectacular, but are the uninteresting deaths no less of an issue than the eye-catching ones?'
Don't get me wrong, it was a terrible day in our history and for better or for worse, has forever changed the course we as a nation are taking (I will definitely say we've leaned more in the worst direction), but c'mon, people, get a grip.

Yeah the uber patriotism after 9/11 really made me sick at the hypocriscy of so much of it. Put a yellow ribbon on your gas guzzling suv (which isnt even a ribbon) to show your support. Buy up anything that has FDNY on it to show your support. Listen to all the wonderful patriotic songs being played over and over and over and over ad nauseum....I swear I love country music but some of that stuff was enough to put me off of it for awhile.

And I'll agree with AFP we learned the wrong lessons from 9/11 and are definately going the wrong way with so much.
