  • height vs weight

I just thought of this last night: why does it seem appropriate to make fun of a woman's height but not her weight?

Whenever someone who is short is around, even they may joke about their height. No on gets offended.

No one dares to joke about the weight of someone who weighs a lot.

I'm not justifying making fun of anyone, it's just something I noticed.
The key to an open mind is understanding everything you know is wrong.

That's mostly because weight is something most people have control over, whereas height is not. Plus people generally feel more self-conscious about being fat than about being short. It's a social stigma.

From my experience most people make fun of guys if they are short especially if they are with a girl who is taller than them.
      JUST MY opinion

Man, I dunno what women YOU know, but the ones I know always punch me when I tease them about their height.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

I just tell people that tease me about my height (im 5'1") that I can kick the shit out of their knees then if they dont leave me alone. Seems to work for me.

As far as my weight, i threaten with sitting on them.

          Works for me!

My sister is just over 5 feet tall and it really bothers her when someone makes fun of her height.

I think it would bother short men even more.

And the problem is their punches are always nut height.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't make fun of people's appearances, period. I'm relatively short (5'3"), but not "laughably" short. However, I am overweight and someone teasing me about my weight would be extremely upsetting. Luckily, this hasn't happened since grade school.

I haven't been teased as much about my height now that I'm an adult and out of school.....and most women I know are between 5'0 and 5'6, not many of them are much taller than that, so I seem to be average now.

I'm 5'10" in my current class I'm the only guy out of a class of 12, 2 women are shorter than me, most are the same height give or take an inch, there are 2 there that are at least 6'. Women seem to be getting taller.

And just the same, I think men are getting shorter.

A little off topic, but I was extastic when ANTM did a special season on shorter models. Although I giggled and and snorted a bit when Tyra was talking about them being so much shorter, when most of the girls on that season were 5'5-5'7 and when it got down to the top 12, only one of them was around my height, 5'3.

At least not when said person is in earshot. Sad but true.

you know i was going to make a joke here but decided not to. Instead I'll just be straight to the point: you are wrong, very wrong, it happens, a lot.

I think he was mostly referring to the reaction you get.

And as others have commented, you get similar reactions. So his point still is valid in saying it's wrong.
