Yes, there is, and I've never understood how shame and belittlement (is that a word? it is now!) are supposed to compel a person to lose weight. Short men may be teased or passed over because of their height, but I'm willing to bet that it's not to the same extent as overweight people, in particular overweight women. Because it's perfectly acceptable for a guy to be a schlub, but a woman must be perfectly toned to get a man.Originally posted by Boozy View PostThere's always an implication that it's your own damn fault, so why don't you change to meet society's expectations?
FTR, I dated a guy shorter than me for a while. I'm 5'3". It was a little awkward going out, but there was never any major problem with it. He turned out to be a jerk, but that didn't have anything to do with his height.

I never hear the end of my weight. I get the same cracks my overweight female friends get and when I am full and don't finish a meal when eating out I am mocked for it because naturally a guy my size should be able to scarf down everything. I am however expected to just let all the comments roll off my back because of course I am a guy so weight "isn't important" it's been important to every girl I have ever dated and to the ones that won't date me because of it.Originally posted by AdminAssistant View PostBecause it's perfectly acceptable for a guy to be a schlub,

You know I've tried to post to this thread and have stopped a couple of times because I wanted to say things correctly.
I think people do get harassed equally for height and weight, however it's different, there's other issues, etc, etc.
Now I will kinda focus on what I know.
Heavy people are usually made fun of because of their size, people think they're dirty, sweaty, lazy, etc. Now in my circle of friends and family we make fun of some people's weight. For instance when my wife was pregnant people joked about how I was pregnant too, but to me they could because they themselves were within the same weight ballpark as me, and I give them crap too. Like my brother in law is starting to get a gut and I joke with him. Again he's only maybe 20lb less than me. But we'd never consider joking like that with my wife's cousins who are both 400+ a piece. Because it's not right. Why because they're not in the same range as us. Now if they want to joke about their own weights then fine they have every right to do that, but we'd never cross that line.
As far as height yes it's something you can't control, but there's nothing like dirty, lazy in there. At worst it's mini me, midget, or Sasquatch. And now my wife's family is tall (all but 2 are over 6'). My wife is tall 6'2" My 13 year old daughter is tall 5'8", and my 16 month old is tall 3' and I'm only 5'11"
Now personally I've got no experience real issues with height. Although I was once annoyed by someone who wanted me to stand on a step stool so I looked taller than my wife for a picture. Other than that I got nothing. However in her family I hear comments of short stuff, etc. Being tossed around, but mind you the average height is like 6'1. Short stuff is the person whose 5'8. And in my family there were jokes on my cousin because she's 5', but the average height on that side is 5'6".And everyone was fine with those comments, but my wife didn't like being called the jolly green giant, Sasquatch, freak, etc. when she went to school because she was a good 6 inches taller than everyone in her class. And my daughter was getting that for a bit until an even taller girl came to her school. But she's still in that make fun of group because she is much taller than others.
I think the thing is too that for instance say a female is 5' sure she's short, but I see a couple of dozen people her same height every day. Same with a 5'8" female. I see a guy whose 250 sure he's overweight, but again I see plenty of them. It's the extremes you don't see all the time. I mean in the course of a day I maybe only see 1 or 2 300lb+ guys, and then in height other than my wife I only see a 6' + female twice a week.
And if you're really trying to pick on people for weight maybe you pick on someone whose 50lbs overweight, and yes there's alot more of them, but take a person whose real tall down even a couple of inches and there's not alot to make fun of anymore because they're probably closer to normal range.

Actually if I get legitimately angry about something I am told I have no right to be mad and the only reason I am mad is because I suffer from Short Man Syndrome.Originally posted by Mr Slugger View Post\

For example I got angry that my car was hit while parked on my street and I was told to let it go and stop being overly sensitive and god they hate short people that get angry about everything. (No this wasn't the person who hit my car but rather a neighbor).Jack Faire
