Something that's been bugging me for a while, that I can't explain: people who have children and don't want to interact with them. Anyone got comments, ideas, explanations?

Why have children if you don't want to interact?

My problem is people who have a bunch of kids when they can't even afford one. If you can't even afford a condom, sex shouldn't even be a freaking option. But that's just me.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers

I see young girls in my neighborhood walking around with tiny infants in strollers or huge bellies . . . and most of them appear to be high school aged. It's sad, really. I suspect it's either to try to hold onto the guy they're seeing (and it usually doesn't work) or they're trying to get welfare benefits.
Screwy system it is: the more kids you have in the household, the bigger amount one can get in monthly benefits. And quite a number of them don't have a job, but that's another rant altogether.
But those are the possible scenarios I can think of right now. Either way, it's a sad way to live life, especially for the kids who are being raised in this environment. Sends out the message that this is how life should be and nothing more.

I dont know either. Children can be one of the greatest thigns in a person's life. Why not interact and share the world with them is beyond me.
I'll agree that quite a few teens make stupid mistakes. Part of that is the lack of proper sexual eduication they get in school. I swear it might be easier to get a firearms class in high school than a true sex education class.

Here I am about to go all biology on all of you again!
We, as a species, are hard wired to do two things, to eat and fuck. We are PROGRAMMED to propagate. We're programed to spread our genes as much as possible to keep our species alive and strong. It's simple fact... After that? Theres not much else.
I myself despise kids. I do not like the young, nor do I ever plan on spawning a pod baby.

So you're saying that the people who don't interact with their kid are of the "make a lot of kids and hope a few survive" category of people as opposed to the "make one or a few kids, and put a lot of energy into them" people?
I imagine there's a bazillion reasons for people who have kids and don't have much to do with them:
- didn't intend to have the kid, resent them for forcibly changing their lifestyle, but for whatever reason was not willing or able to get an abortion/adopt them out.
-regardless of intention to have the kid, is simply unable to take care of them at that level, either due to mental illness or personal issues like chemical dependence
-other partner wanted the kid, not this particular parent
-not mature enough when they had the kid in the first place
I'm sure there's many, many more reasons, too. I haven't even gotten into caregivers other than the birth parents, either.

Yeah but the thing is we are a sentient species... Suposedly. Which means we should be able to out think and reason and behave according to a more logical and reasonable manner. (Please wait until I turn away to start laughing a face can only take so much being laughed in. )
But yeah too many people dont think, and go with the moment. Part of that is the lack of effective education. When some people's idea of sex ed is Wait until you're married and then you'll know what is right because god tells you is the only kind of sexual education they get there is going to be trouble.
