I'm not sure I'd say religion is the greatest evil.

Granted people have done all kinds of fucked up stuff in the name of their God and religion has been the cause of multiple wars and major conflicts, but there are some positives to it. Churches often do good work in their communities.

I think the greatest evil is our own over confidence. If we begin to believe that we are so much higher and mightier than the animals and that we have massive control of our planet and will be able to turn to science and/or technology to solve all our problems, we become consumed with pride and blind to reality.

none, because then it isn't murder.

Most people would refer to this person as incorruptible.

I disagree they are the greatest potential for evil ever.

Their rules say that a behavior, action, attitude is bad they will commit great evils that are not against the rules in order to punish or banish the "evil" from their lives.

Gay sons made homeless by "Good people" who are ridding themselves of the plague in their midst. Is an example. They feel their action was good as per their paladin rules homosexuality is a great evil and banishing it is not.

My counter argument would be that the "Bad Boy" the brooder the person who has seen the darkside and walks the line of good and evil is truly the good person. He knows what true evil is capable of and does not choose it. He is self aware and knows his actions to be good.

Anyway there is my 2 cents for what it's worth.

You forgot to acknowledge that I said humans do it for sport, not for survival. I did say animals do some pretty sick stuff, but they do it for survival.

And I'm not going to get into the legal definition of murder. That's a different argument all in its own.

ETA: I still think that humans are the greatest evil. So what you tell me will NOT change that fact.

If good men do nothing because they are too lazy to move from the middle of the street and the bad guy trips over them and gets hurt then evil did not succeed. Lawyered (cookies for reference)

Actually I talked about how some animals kill for no reason, and how cats will kill for sport. Also a few people replied to me and posted examples of animals killing for sport and "playing" their prey.

I'm going to go with How I Met Your Mother.

                  Bullies:
Not even strictly the ones who beat up you in high school. My grandmother was a psychological bully who drove almost all her children to alcohol and her daughters to eating disorders. She's been trying to do the same to me.

                  Entitlement:
I've got students who feel they are entitled to do things the way they want to do them and that school is just a place to socialize, not learn.

                  Organized Religion:
Cause of so many wars and bloodshed. They've also been the hinderence to so many advancements in not only science but society.

Aren't you confusing Lawful Evil for Lawful Good? Good isn't just a person saying they are, it's the actual doingness of it. Parents kicking sons out isn't a 'Good' act, it's an 'Evil' one...
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

...and this is why I stick with Chaotic Neutral; would also explain why 3rd Edition paladins got extra benefits if they became blackguards.

Hmm, greatest evil.. greatest evil... might be cliché, but how about money? I'm honestly very terrible at explaining anything (especially my own thoughts), and even now I'm starting to think that if money were replaced with a barter system little might change. Bleah.

Honestly, animals don't have a very vast sense of what's right and wrong. Humans, however, do, yet they still do it.

For example: If my cat poops somewhere else besides the litter box, he knows he did something wrong because I trained him that way. If my other cat decided to play with a mouse, it doesn't think of it as "wrong".

However, we humans know that killing, torturing, and rape is wrong, but we still do it.

And I will say it again. Humans are the greatest evil.

Lots of friends and family think I see the world in black and white. Well, mostly black.

I think I hate most, is the insane ability of all humanitay to take advantages of others. Just just for profit, or pleasure. But people get sick highs insulting others based on something as small as not having 200 dollar shoes, or having a zit. Brutally. Like its the more horrible thing in the world.

The ability that all these assholes combine into a group, and they . rule. the fucking world. If you don't follow them, your basically nothing more then a shitstain, and you'll never get out. You may follow your own way. A good chunk will be very happy with that they don't follow the horde. But it doesn't matter. They'll still be shutdown. No good offers. No friends. No lovers. You get nothing for being yourself, and everything for being someone your not.

Yet so many people go against that mentally. Even though is no reward other then feeling good. You could be the sweetest, kindest, smartest person, but unless your beauitful or wealthly, only a very small amount of people will even notice. the bulk will laugh at you. Mock you. And do everything in their power to make you know, that you are a piece of shit to everyone.

I believe humans created the concept of "evil," and are the only creatures capable of being evil.

Not sure what I think the "greatest" evil is.....this is a good question, and many interesting answers have been mentioned....hmmm.....let me have a few glasses of wine, and I shall return.

Greed drives people to do incredibly unethical things to get more of what they want. Regardless of how much they have and not caring if their greed screws up other people's lives. Bernie Madoff and (for the South Floridians) Scott Rothstein are prime examples of pure, unadulterated greed and why I believe that greed is the greatest evil of all.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people...

I agree it is an evil one but in some belief systems it is a good act. That was my point. A community feels that it is good to kill people accused of being witches then their actions are in that area considered good and they are considered good people whereas I would call that evil.
