  • Break Times

I've seen on CS that in some areas, breaks are not required and in my opinion they should be. Breaks would give the employees time to relax, maybe have some food and/or a drink (non alcoholic), and possibly clear their heads so they are able to focus on their jobs.

..and for those who work outside, to go in and warm up. Had an assisstant manager suggest this the other day.

There should be adequate breaks provided for employees to use the restroom at the very least. No job is worth kidney infections.

That's what pissed me off about the call center. To use the bathroom we had to either use some of our 30 minute allotted break time or go OFF THE CLOCK. There was no other way. If you weren't feeling well and needed a bathroom run late in the day, all you could do is clock out. I had to do that once and ended up staying an extra 45 minutes to cover the time I had to clock out because I didn't feel good.

Yeouch! I'm glad I work at my job, then. I do phone support for a hospital and it's not even close to that.

I didn't know that was allowed in other states. In NJ, you are required 15 minutes worth of break for every four hours of work.

Maybe because of the sort of staff at the facility you work at It's a health care establishment, they at least have the brains to realize that holding it in too long has ill effects on the human body, unlike retail and phone drone managers who seem to think we're all robots. Ironically enough though, nursing staff are often the most common type of employee to get a kidney infection because they're so busy, despite the fact that they are required to take breaks as well, lol.

                You're in the wrong country.

Australia has specific laws about allotted break times, and if you need to go pee, then you can - and the employer can't say jack-shit about it. Of course, excessively taking such breaks - or for too long, and you'll have a chat. Which, eventually, may lead to getting fired... but hopefully that's extreme!

When I was working on the roads, the only reason we didn't kick too much of a stink was a) we got other benefits instead, b) most of those on the job new how to handle things, and c) the bosses weren't around. Possibly d), we could seriously had them in deep shit if they didn't
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

Not at the store that I work at, for shifts of 5 hours or less you only get 1 10 minute break. For any shift over 5 hours you get 1 10 minute break and 1 30 minute lunch.

                  Update: I checked again and it's 5 1/2 hours not 5.
