How does 49.9% of a population deem it as a 'minority'?? Especially when the next highest percentage is 28% - almost half that of this 'minority'.

Um, yes?

We willingly divide ourselves by race all the time. My hometown is nearly all white. While nearly everyone I know from home isn't racist, none of them would move a town over where nearly everyone is hispanic or black and vice versa. We feel more comfortable with people who appear similar to us, otherwise we feel uncomfortable and tension rises. Whites will no longer feel safe as there will be more non-whites than whites meaning we'd be outnumbered. It's a result of most people not wanting complete equality. They want equality as long as it mainly helps them out.

I believe what Slyt is saying is that there are more races than "white" and "non-white". If those identifying as white fall to 49.9% of the population, then they will still comprise a vast majority -- unless every single non-white person in the US decides to officially unite in some sort of mega-race.

Which IS a ludicrous idea. Because as much as racism exists, there is no "us vs. them" mentality in that not every non-white feels instant brotherhood with every other non-white.

I think it's rather telling that some whites would consider themselves a minority at 49.9% of the population. It's like they're saying, "It IS us versus them. Whites versus the rest of them...because non-whites are all the same, right?"

Pres Clinton mentioned this in one of his State of the Unions. So it's been speculated for at least ten years now.

Growing up my best friend was African American. I didn't know it. He was my friend Jeremy he liked the Rolling Stones and played the recorder. Until I was an adult and had spent years being told by multicultural clubs that I should focus on how different everyone is from me it didn't occur to me.

As much as everybody likes to say race doesn't matter, the fact is that it does. People are influenced by the culture of thier race. I think its less important that whites are declining, what more important are those on the rise. If religiously strict Mexican Catholics or Muslims are going to be gaining more power it will effect national policy.

See that is the thing I don't think it is. I think that people keep getting told by multicultural clubs and other groups promoting "tolerance" that we should focus on differences.

It used to be "the things we have in common are what show us that we are all people" now the focus is the differences when that is why racisim exists in the first place.

People hate others for the differences.

No.

'Whitie' has always (and still is) a racial 'minority' on this planet. It's just that the USA is now catching up. It had to happen eventually, and the same will happen in Europe as well. Eventually also, the whole planet will be a sort of beige (well, actually - will be a sort of 'black' - charcoal black - the colour of burnt carbon ... after we've nuked the place to bits ....)
