  • Ok this is just moronic

    Story here

So because the boy wishes to have long hair he is punished? I dont think long hair has anything to do with education. What if this child's religion or beliefs required not cutting the hair... I have never seen such moronic dress codes and this is for a public school.

If your pants have belt loops you must wear a belt?

I can understand uniform dress as I come from a city that you can get shot for what you wear.. but dictating hair style and length or boys can't wear ear rings??

I wonder why girls can have short hair... I mean if you really are going to go for stereotypical might as well include everyone.

Well, this is definitely crossing the line. Unless it's a private school, I don't see how they can have a dress code like that. Public schools should only have a sensible dress code, stating that you can't dress indecently (like wearing nearly nothing) or flagrant stuff like cursing on shirts, etc. But hair length? How absurd.

Honestly, it shouldn't matter one bit. Is he causing trouble? Is he disrupting the other kids? I don't think so.

I agree completely. There are sensible dress codes, and then there are dress codes that attempt to instill a certain world-view.

If I want to raise my kid a hippie, apparently I can't send him to a public school in Texas. That's just wrong. It's none of the government's business how a parent allows their child to wear their hair.

Oh my god! This really steams me! My husband and I live in Texas, and he has extremely long hair! Down to about his butt. He's been growing it out since high school and does not have any plans to cut it anytime soon.

On its Web site, the district defends its code, saying "students who dress and groom themselves neatly, and in an acceptable and appropriate manner, are more likely to become constructive members of the society in which we live."
This is fucking RIDICULOUS! So boys/men who have long hair are less likely to become constructive members of society!?!? My husband works extremely hard, went to college for 4.5 years, has a BS in computer science and a double minor in Japanese and Mathematics, and is one of the hardest working analysts in his division where he works now. We just commented last night that he was the only one who got to leave relatively early in the evening yesterday from work because everyone else was still working on their part of a project that is due today, while my husband's work was all done and working properly by 5:30pm!

This really pisses me off. I'm really tempted to email that school district...must calm down and have breakfast...

That is just plain stupid, who the hell cares about how long his hair is or what he looks like. Shouldn't the main focus of kids being in school be that they're learning?

I'm not sure how a public school can even have this dress code. Some traditional native kid shows up, what, they gonna make him cut his hair, too?

I don't know how they get away with it, but when I told my husband about this article, he says it's very common in Texas for schools to have dress codes like that. He got relatively lucky that his H.S. didn't so he was able to grow his hair out.

                  Here is their dress code

What I find insulting is This total development includes the training of students in social and moral standards, ethical conduct, good manners, and good grooming as well as the teaching of academic subjects."

Excuse me MORAL standards... who's morals? who's ethics... what the hell happened to public schools... Ok I can see school uniforms.. and standard dress codes.. skirts this length pants dont sag no profanity on shirts no gang shit... but for the love of god... what are they trying to do make mini me's?

Well at least my hometown isnt in the crazy bandwagon... go Fortworth

                      That made me giggle, too.

Seriously, if a four-year-old can grow a moustache, let that badass do it.

I was lucky when I transferred schools in the first grade, they let me keep my goatee.

I find it odd that a public school would have such a conservative dress code.....private schools, they get a little crazy, but public school prohibiting long hair and facial hair?

What are we, living in the 50s here? Even DISNEYWORLD stopped the bullcrap about long hair and facial hair on guys discrimination, why the heck can't this place? In mu high school, we had at least one kid who had like a 3 inch mowhawk he wore to school everyday, even colored it different colors all the time too. No one cared (we all thought it was cool).

Yeah, a 4 year old with semi-long hair for a boy must be really disctracting all the other students from all that fingerpainting. Apparently, having a penis makes the hair on your other head evil if past a certain length.
