The guy is in prison for murder.
He stabbed a young woman 19 times.

Now, he's suing the prison for $50,000 because of an injury he sustained using "faulty" exercise equipment.

My tax dollars could end up paying off the settlement if he wins.

I am furious.

This comes on the tail of another lawsuit where an appeals court awarded a multiple murderer $6,000 for pain and suffering because the prison didn't replace his running shoes in a timely manner, and it caused a strain on his knee.

I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that prison meant a loss of certain rights.

While I don't feel prisoners should be mistreated, and should have the basics of life, I am really sick of these lawsuits over things like that.

In the case of the prisoner with the running shoes, I read that the shoes were 18 months old.
Anyone wanna guess how long it's been since I have been able to afford new shoes?
If my tax dollars keep getting eaten up with stupid shit like this, it will be even longer.

Well it's like in my state there's a prisoner that killed his wife that's trying to get a sex change again on the state's money. He's claiming it's cruel and unusual punishment that he remain a male. The state says it's an unnecessary procedure. Regardless of where it ends up the lawyer for the prisoner is on the state's payroll, and the state has to pay their own lawyers. So regardless it's costing money. Kinda sucks

Ree what they should do is give into the suite and upon the awarding of the money confiscate it and put it towards his feed and care. And when he gets out of jail present him a bill for the outstanding balance.

Let's see...both of these are convicted murderers, right? Why aren't they executed already? Or atleast living the remainder of their lives inside a small and dark cell where they can contemplate on what they did? Oh yeah, cruel and unusal punishment. Yeah, good call that. I think someone forget that punishments must by their nature be both cruel and unusual. After all, it IS a bit cruel to lock people up, but that is sort of the point there - that they will hopefully become law-abiding citizens when they get out lest they end up in prison again.

That's cuz teh death penalty is "so cruel" and "harsh punishment" and just "sick vengenance"....

But what the sickos did wasn't cruel or unusual by any means. I mean, it's no big deal to torture, rape, or kill someone. I mean, they probably had a bad childhood or ate too much candy or something.

that's because in the USA the government has to pay for the appeal process if you are going though the death penalty. If you get life in prison then you have to pay for all of the fees associated with the appeal process.
