I went over to my ex's for Christmas dinner. She has a son from another relationship than ours. My daughter loves her younger brother but hates when he tries to get my attention.
The boy's father rarely pays him much attention mostly ignoring everyone and instead choosing to play video games when he is home. As such sometimes the boy will call me dad. This bothers my daughter and she immediatly corrects her little brother.
They actually during one of my visits literally played tug of war with me. It saddens me I do everything I can to make sure my daughter gets time with me even though it's not a lot and I try to make the most of it when I am there. This boy looks to me for dad influence cuz his dad who is there 24/7 can't be bothered to be one.
It's not fair really.
