Overly Light Sentence For Animal Free-er

Earlier last year, someone broke into the local zoo where lots of wild animals are kept (like LITERALLY broke in after hours) and freed some of the animals. This is why I wish I had a link, I can only remember one of the animals released, it was a monkey of sorts. It was a crazy news story, and the worst part was that the idiots who freed them obviously didn't know or didn't care that these animals didn't have much of a chance in the "Wisconsin" wild, they needed to be taken care of by the zookeepers and be on their regular diet. There were talks that the monkey would probably be the first to die if he wasn't returned or didn't come back.

They did get the animals back, and months later, they FINALLY caught the little shits who did it.

Their punishment? No jail, no probation.....just 200 hours of community service, a few hundred bucks in fines, and a letter of apology and outlining why we don't go around zoos letting wild exotic animals free.

Maybe if the community service was spent mucking out the elephants?

I say we feed them to the cougars or the buffallo.

Or if all 200 hours were re-enactments of one of the animal's potential cross-highway stroll (cars included, of course. 55 mph ). Bullcrap like this is the reason vigilantes exist....

I think the best punishment of all would be having to work THERE cleaning up buffallo chips and all the bird shit. Those peacocks can shit up a storm!

I would have to agree with Blas. Have the culprits work at the zoo - so they can understand why the monkey probably couldn't survive out in the 'wisconsin wild' for long.
Let the punishment fit the crime?
Or did they want the animals to die? In which case it might serve to release the culprits into the wild from which the monkeys came from (Africa or Indian sub Continent?) - so see how they would fare in the wild.
