Right, because the doctors doing their job by making sure you're informed about the risks involved and the medical complications at play makes them asholes. Sounds to me like they were going above and beyond what many in their profession would have to make sure you knew what you were doing and save your child's life despite the odds, maybe you should be thanking them.

It's a doctor's job to warn you about medically related dangers, just as it's a fireman's job to warn you about fires and a policeman's to warn you about criminals. They're all doing they're best to help you, maybe it's the decent thing not to insult them while they're at it.

Ok first of all I have thanked the Doctors who were good Doctors.. I have been raised in the medical field... How ever I did have doctors.. that tried to push one way or the other.. How is that doing their jobs? Honestly I would love an answer for that... when you have a doctor telling you that your being stupid for having a c-section to give your baby better odds at survival even though it is hard on your body?

I have no problem when the doctor or who ever says ok these are your options.. these are the pros and cons... I do have a problem when they interject their personal opinions and views.

Part of keeping you informed is giving you their opinion as to what is medically best. For every time I've seen/heard of a doctor pushing too much and getting insulted for it there's been several who were just being thorough.

That's really not a doctor's job when it comes to genetic disorders and genetic counseling. They are NOT supposed to give their opinions.

Actually I was training in the medical field at one time and giving you their opinion on what was best is a huge no no. You are not supposed to do that. Giving your opinion on what is best is not your job. In fact if you give your opinion someone follows it and then it goes badly you are liable for a malpractice suit.

So a doctor's not allowed to point out potential risks or benefits, or recommend courses of action?

I'm not talking about what's morally right/wrong. I'm talking about, medically related risk/reward. What has the highest chance of success and what may be a better option if the patient has alternate concerns. All these things fall into the realm of a professional opinion.

Yes they do but his personal opinion, "You should do this" Is highly inappropriate. His medical opinion has to be limited to the things you list not include a recommendation of how he would go.

The person you were responding to was stating they have no problem with a doctor pointing out the potential risks or benefits or what has the best odds of succeeding what she objects to is "In my opinion you should choose this one"

It is not the doctors place to judge the patients decision the only time their objection should be noted is to the child's social worker when a minor is involved and no it is not their place to push or prod because they feel the person is taking the wrong course of action.

The instant the start pushing they have over stepped their job as a doctor they have made you aware of the limits and benefits of everything the decision is yours not his to make.

I loved my HROB He told me straight up that having a c-section would be easiest on my son but could easily kill me. *which for the record almost did but that is a whole other colored horse* He was brutally honest.. and for that I was thankful... but when I told him my choice he said ok.. and that was it... And trust me I called him a cold hearted bastard at the time.. and he said yes.. but that was his job... he respected my wishes but wanted me to have all the info... so he put in a circloge *omg how the hell is it spelled* and I was laid in a bed and told my only option was flat... no showers.. no bathroom... just lay there... unfortunately he wasn't there 2weeks later when my son decided he wanted to be out. The doc that was on call gave me a hassle about my choice and said it was stupid to risk everything on a slim hope...

Oh as for people with horrible defects... let me mention one of my Idols... Stephen Hawking.. he has lived what something like 40 years with a disease that should have killed him in 5-10?
