Well I guess the fact that most everyone in HS are basically posers ended up meaning that they'd never actually take a risk (for the most part) though they still all bragged about how they drank, and smoked, and whatevered...
Now that I've hit a nearby community college alongside the same batch of miscreants quite a few have started up and brag even more (something I didn't think was possible) with no reason why except that it's apparently rebellious and rebellious = cool. All units: IRENE

I'd agree that smoking cigarettes being a rebellious act for 20something types died decades ago. Now, smoking "because it's cool" and smoking "socially" are different things, I'd wager.
I won't go puffing my e-cig BECAUSE it'll piss people off. But if it does, I'll happily explain - or try - that it isn't smoke coming out. If that fails, skunk gets sarcastic.

A lot of the people at Larp are starting to use them. I like the "Blu" ones that have a blue tip at the end. Others I've seen are red, orange, green, and purple. They continue to smoke them outside as we do get some people that tweak out over everything, but it's nice to have the alternate colors other than red or orange because then you can't mistake it for an "analog" cigarette.
Another nifty thing I like about it, is that you can customize your flavors. The guy that first started bringing his to Larp usually has a non nicotine peppermint one, which is quite tasty. The other one of his that I tried just this weekend was a chocolate peanut butter brownie one with high nicotine levels.
If New York state ever gives me back my state refund (That's a rant for another time) I plan on getting one for myself.

Until I saw "New York state" I was about to ask "Do you go to the same Larp I do?" About five people where I go use e-cigs, and two of them have the Blu. I read far better reviews of similar brand Volcano, but they only come with red, white or (soon) green or purple LEDs. So I bought white and will color the tip myself. I also wanted one in all black - I don't like the idea of having the kind that are colored exactly like a regular cigarette.
As said, I won't use it in places JUST to rile people up. BUT if I'm using it in a public, outdoor, reasonable place and someone won't stop bitching, I won't hesitate to be snarky back.
Do your research before you buy, but also use your own preference; I've noticed that, on e-cig forums, users all tend to adore their type and despise all others, and many really hate anything that hasn't been modded, altered, adjusted, customized and hot-rodded.Last edited by Skunkle; 03-17-2010, 04:03 PM.

I was sitting next to a couple using them at a bar the other night. For lack of a better word to use, they were annoying.
The smell of the vapor was different and took some getting used to, but the damn light on the tip is what really bugged me. It was like someone kept shining a pen light in my eyes for a few seconds over and over again. Their faces looked funny too. Like they were having to work too hard to get the vapor out of it.

I have a friend with the e-cig, and as long as you're a few feet away from it, you really don't notice a thing, smell wise. The total jerk who thought it was a good idea to blow said "vapor" in my direction with me less than two feet away... I have a rather severe allergy to most artificially scented products. Well, it was funny to watch his reaction when I went into a coughing fit. I don't think he knew that more than smoke can harm people.
I'm not sure if I support people carrying them about everywhere they go, indoors and out. Is this the adult version of a pacifier, that we need to cater to people's oral fixation every second of the day?
