Your statement is like saying we shouldn't get mad at rapists because those women shouldn't have allowed themselves to be in a situation where they could get raped

Not exactly--you can still get worms and other nasties through email. Email scanners do work, but they don't prevent everything.

Besides, there are ways to get them off your computer, as frustrating as they can be.
Most of the time, you can get them off your machine. But, what pisses me off, is that I have to do it in the first place! I mean, what gives someone else the *right* to damage *my* computer?

A million times, yes! Heck, I'll do it myself.

I know there were at least two instances with my old computer that I had to pay someone to remove viruses off of my computer because some fucker decided to make a virus and embed it in ads in places that I've been going to for years. And I have/had working anti-spy and anti-virus protection on my new computer and the old one but that didn't stop the nasty things from getting onto my computer.

If a person desgins a virus with the intent of infecting other computers, that person deserves to not only to have the same thing done to them but also put into a sunless, windowless room with one meal a day and only a toliet for the rest of their lives.

I had a brand new netbook that was less than a month old, and one of my foster daughters borrowed it for a few minutes to go on the internet.

She swears she didn't download anything, and that she didn't go to any junk sites, yet there was a picture file on my desktop when she was done. I opened it to see what it was because I knew I hadn't put it there.

I ended up with a virus because I opened the file.
I paid over $50 to have someone clean it, yet there is still a remnant of the virus on the computer. I keep getting a Google redirect from time to time.

I was told by someone from this site that it's entirely possible the girl is telling me the truth.

I trust this person very much when it comes to computer and technical knowledge, so if he says people have created viruses that invade a computer just by browsing through sites, I believe him.
I also believe him when he says that the only way to completely eliminate this damned bug is to wipe the computer and start over.

I don't care if there is always a way to delete them.
Why should my hard earned money have to go to remove something that some asswipe had no business putting there to begin with, and why should my brand new computer have to be wiped clean?
            Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

I've actually had to wipe my laptop and even then it never worked right again. I don't know how much is from the virus and how much is from it being an old cheap laptop, but I had problems I never had before the wipe.

                No, not really.

Well, you have a point there.

                Maybe I'm just weird. *shrugs*

I agree they should be punished, and most severely, but I think the death penalty is a bit of overkill (pardon the pun). Life at hard labor would be better. Make them toil hard, sweat and ache and have to turn the money they earn over to those whose computers they destroyed.

I agree. "Blame the victim" mentality is just crap. I have every right to look at porn and watch House online without fear of some asshole ruining my computer for no other reason than he has no life.

People wouldn't get viruses if they didn't go to bad sites. Women wouldn't get raped if they didn't go outside to places where there are rapists. How is that not the same statement?

I'm going to, and I can't believe the words coming out of my keyboard, agree with elsporko.

                          Except in both instances:

                          A) Some people have no choice but to expose themselves to risk.

                          and

                          B) More than enough risk exists in relatively 'safe' areas.

Either way, it doesn't matter whether one is on a dodgy site or wandering down a dark alley, the person perpetrating the crime is still the one at fault.
