What it will cut down on is the number of students in school the next day.

All the more reason to have major tests that count for huge chunks of their final grades in each class the next day.

School is for learning. Not for beating people up for being different or going to a prom and making sure that the /freaks/ can't go and deprive them of what they feel is a vital part to be ever normal.

I agree. I wasn't saying the way it should be I was pointing out the way it will be.

Honestly, it wouldn't do anyone any good if proms or other formals are scheduled on week nights. Most of the "dances" I went to in high school lasted until at least 11 to 11:30 pm and were held in the cafeteria and it took a while to get that set up/taken down. I don't think anyone would want to do that, go home for about an hour and a half to two hours, then come right back to school for classes.

The high school I attended had most of it's student body that lived a half hour or more away, so it wasn't a good idea during my time in high school to have a formal or other special occassions during the week day. So if I, as I lived about a half hour away from the high school when I still lived up there, left a formal dance at 11:30, I wouldn't be getting home until midnight or later. Then I'd have to get into my night clothes, get relaxed from the excitement of the formal, get ready for bed, then go to sleep -- by that time, it would be almost 1:30 to 2 in the morning. I don't know about anyone else, but I can now barely function with less then six hours of sleep and certainly can not/could not function with three hours of sleep. For me that wouldn't have been possible.

For my senior prom, I didn't get home until about 4:30 in the morning, and I doubt any of my fellow seniors got home any earlier then that. The prom was held somewhere fancy, I can't remember exactly where, and the "after party" was held at the school. It was fun, not all seniors attended it but there was a TON of students there. If this had been held during the week day, there would have had to be at least a three hour delay so that the school could clean up after the party.

The only time that I was forced to be at school the next day after an event was for my high school chorus's annual trip and only because we all had PLENTY of sleep and time to be ready for school.

I think that having a major test after a formal is a stupid idea and this is coming from someone who believes that school is for learning and not messing around in. I'm sorry but having a formal is just something where students can relax and have fun around other students without a big-assed test looming over everyone's head. If there was a test where it was a big part of students grades, does anyone really think that parents would allow their kids to be out at some formal the night before?

School is for learning. Sadily though for High Schools, its all about the cliches. So those cliches get to have fun and rule that. Not all people were allowed that luxary.

Seriously. Why the fuck should the popular once again get more goddamn bonus for being cool? They already get whatever they want without punishment. So its their choice. Go to a prom or formal, have some fun, go back home and nap, or just stay up til after school and do tests. If anything the ones they forced out would have the advantage in those tests in the fact they would show up rather then the hungover.

But sadily, as much as I wish I could forget it or change it, the fact reminds. High School is only for cool people, and those without friends/money/LOOKS will be punished with no end in sight.

I think you mean cliques, Plaid. Although it is pretty cliche as the years go on, that the popular kids always have and always will run the schools.

High school can be a living hell for a lot of kids. I don't plan on ever being a parent, but if it happens, damn if my kid will ever go through what I did. I'd rather have a sheltered home school kid than one who goes through the cesspool that is known as public school.

Neither did I. I never saw the big deal in them. My senior year I spent it watching movies with my then girlfriend at the time.

Amusingly, a friend of mine was trying to convince me to go. Told him there's more to life than school dances.

I'm an oddball, I guess. I loved Prom. It gave me an excuse to get all dressed up and feel like a princess. I was certainly not a "popular" kid. My motto was 'I can only do this for four years of my life. Might as well make the best of it.' The only thing I didn't like was having to go try on dresses. Lol

Work the next day was no biggie either because my boss and I had a system worked out. I would open on Prom Day and then I could come in later the next day to work around 8am or 9am.

At my school at least, anyone could go whether they had a date or not. If the date was someone from a different school or not in school, but under 21,then there was a bunch of paperwork to fill out and had to get a copy of an i.d. for them. On that night, groups mingled and everyone had a great time.
