But who? Giving me the names of four women who accomplished something isn't proving anything.

Would you like me to post ALL the men inventors? That would take a bit too long.

um it's usually a medical requirement not a choice-it is something you have to heal from-lochia or postpartum bleeding is from an OPEN WOUND in the uterus where the placenta detached, you can bleed out and die from that Postpartum hemorrhaging occurs in between 1% and 10% of all pregnancies in the United States. It usually begins in the 24 hours immediately following childbirth (early postpartum hemorrhage), however, it can occur anytime during the six weeks following delivery (delayed postpartum hemorrhage).-heck in North Carolina it is ILLEGAL for a woman to drive for the full six weeks after giving birth for this very reason-so do you propose they walk to work? C'mon show some more ignorance......

ask Irena Sendler, Mother Theresa(even though I don't like her), Helen Keller(co-founded the ACLU-and she was deaf, mute, and blind), Princess Diana or any of these 200 women

Sorry but I think saving Jewish children from the holocaust made a difference in the world-but I view the world as the people in it, not material things. Just as Princess Diana tried to get landmines eliminated-but since she's a woman(Princess no less) and didn't invent anything she didn't make any difference in the world. And the ACLU that would not even exist without Helen Keller has done nothing of course......

Cheap shot-or do I have to point out that when the bill of rights was written women couldn't vote, work outside the home, hold property...heck they WERE property and had no rights,so the bill written by men DID NOT EVEN APPLY TO THEM-nor did it apply to anyone that wasn't a white male landowner. Or did we FALL asleep during history class?

ya know what they all had in common? they were birthed and raised by women-quite possibly women who encouraged them to do great things because they themselves could not.....

Then, honestly, what's the point of joining a debate forum if you're going to nix every argument someone comes up with by calling a bunch of blah blah blah? There's no real debate involved if you make a statement, claim that "them's the breaks, that's just how the world works, oh well, moving on!" and then completely disregard whatever anyone says to the contrary.

Oh, and saying you CAN'T do something just because you're a woman? Boo-frickin'-hoo. I think BlaqueKatt and Plaidman covered that angle well enough, so I won't add to it.

But honestly, then, why make a post on a debate forum, and then not commit to an actual debate, especially not one backed up by factual evidence. I'm sorry, but it's actually insulting to see the people here who've taken the time to show you hard data of counterpoints, and then have you shoo it off, because your one random blogger is RIGHT, and that's the only thing you know.

Actually, more than insulting, it's disturbing, and I, personally, find it kind of disgusting. But hey, that's all right, right? Because I'm not really saying anything valid, and neither is anyone else who's responded here. We're just filling the screen with useless blah blah blah.

What I love about this thread is that it's very nicely summing up the incredible achievements of women without putting men down. No-one, besides the OP has a single derogatory thing to say about women or men.

Was that your original intent you crafty OP you? If so, congratulations.

One woman inventor I want to give a shout-out to is 2005 Australian of the year, Fiona Wood.
She invented 'spray on skin' which was used on the 2002 Bali bombing victims. This is where skin cells are sprayed on the surface of a burn instead of waiting to manufacture a sheet of skin cells to place over it. This cut back the time needed to cultivate cells by 16 days. This invention greatly reduced the scarring a burn victim would experience, as well as the chance of infection.
This invention was used on my brother when a truck tire exploded in his face. I can't thank her enough.

But, GINSENG's comments make it seem as though Dr Wood should have just given up earlier in her life and stayed at home, after all, what can a woman do?

Now, I have no intention of being a doctor, or a lawyer, or a scientist, in fact, I'm trying out as a writer. But that doesn't mean that I couldn't be in that sort of field if I tried.

I kinda get the feeling that the OP may have been put in a position growing up where she has been told that she would never have a chance at greatness just because she's female. And that makes me sad.

You can't do anything because you're a woman?! Are you kidding me?! Thanks for taking our sex back a couple of thousand years.

Since you're such an expert on history, then you would know that Elizabeth I did many great things and brought down the Spanish empire.

I agree with std. You have yet to bring forth facts. What you presented were views from biased people, which has no legitimacy in arguments. No-one can take you seriously with this because you just spout off nonsense. We have presented you with tons of facts (that are only a small fraction of what's out there), but you just say that we are wrong and that men are better because you and some misogynist say so.

So chickadee, you best be bringing some facts.

And this would be why I was so upset after first reading this.

Where is any proof, other than biased opinions and youtube blogs? Don't call wiki worthless if you are trying to use youtube as proof.

And then proceeding to tell everyone who is posting facts that it's "Blah blah blah".....no more blah blah blah than someone just spouting off biased sexist nonsense with no real proof or facts.

ON AVERAGE, it may well be true that one sex is somewhat better than the other for certain purposes and vice versa... but if you leave out the few things that are strictly limited to one or the other (producing sperm or ova, lactating, giving birth...) then those average differences pale compared to the differences between any two individual real people.

look at JK Rowling and (much as I DESPISE the woman and her writing) Stephanie "oooo sparkles" Meyer-they've made a difference in the world by writing things kids actually want to read-and getting kids interested in reading horrendously long books-no matter what the subject is-DOES make a difference-maybe their next book will be something that inspires them to DO something great, or just be a better person.

We need more of that.....Heck I will actually admit that I decided to start doing charity work because of a song-that's right folks a pop song made the Katt examine her life and make changes...the song in question.....yeah yeah go ahead and poke fun...at least it wasn't a Rick Roll.....
