Just cuz someone is a criminal, does not mean they are not being rebellious. I picked the women on my list CUZ THEY WENT AGAINST SOCIETY. Society of the time. Joan of Arc wore men's clothing, and fought as a soldier. She also claimed to hear voices. Elizabeth van Lew was one of several women who rebelled against society by fighting in the Civil War; at that point in time, it was hardly a usual thing for women to do.
    1) I was not trying to be rude to you. You seemed to be rude to me by seemingly ignoring my posts where I explained some of the figures you mentioned.

    2) Criminal behavior is always against society. Despite that, male criminals aren't considered rebels (unless their crimes were against the State) so female criminals shouldn't hold that distinction either.

    3) Women have been far more prevalent in warfare than you seem to get. Their activities were far-less reported by their counterparts, but women have served in some part or the other as vital elements of nation's warfighting abilities.

    • Generally men want to do more with their lives. This is not to say men never work in retail. Some do. But do you understand what I'm trying to say?
Well, not entirely... but if you're trying to say that people work retail because they don't "want to do more with their lives," then boy have you ever come to the wrong site

What are some other ways then? How can you make a difference in the world without inventing new things and ideas?
Lots of people "make a difference in the world" with very old ideas. For that matter, you say that as if traditional women's roles don't make a difference. What affects future generations more than how they're raised? For that matter, my mom and stepmom, although both of their long careers have been in relatively feminine professions, have done things that "make a difference." Stepmom is a nurse; if you don't think what they do makes a difference then you've had a remarkably healthy seventy years or so. And as a school counselor, Mom did a lot of reporting, and sometimes successfully stopping, child abuse and neglect. Sure, it's not inventing teleportation or anything, but you cannot honestly say these things don't matter.

Obviously if you do those things, you are better than some man working at Mcdonald's when he's 30.
Again, you'll be hard-pressed to find a LESS sympathetic crowd than this one to any argument that rests on the inferiority of those who work in customer service. Have you met Fratching's older sister site?

Reading further, apparently some of this has already been said, but it won't hurt to put up again in a different way

      • Ginseng: Why do you keep harping on the things men invent in your quest to prove they are better, and completely ignore ALL the many inventions by women? It reminds me of people who laud all the things White people invented, and ignore ALL the many inventions by people of other races, in order to "prove" White people are better.

BTW: I'm sorry, but someone is going to have to do something other than invent a gadget in order for me to think they're a great person.
Do not lead, for I may not follow. Do not follow, for I may not lead. Just go over there somewhere.

        • I'm just done. I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement that woman are equal to the task of whatever man can do with enough effort and determination. The only thing man cannot do that woman can, is have babies.

Hell, our one pride and joy of writing our names in the snow is taken away. I've heard that there was cup with a tunnel that woman can now use to do the same thing.

And so say all of us. -.- In order to debate such a statement as made in the OP, I'd expect a lot of links, research etc to back it up rather than just summarily dismissing any replies as "blah blah blah".

Maybe we should just skip to discussing fluffy bunnies and unicorns that poop rainbows instead, then. XD

              • Why don't we all step away from the keyboard for a minute and come back ready to discuss the actual topic?
                Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

I think we've tried that, Ree. The problem is that Ginseng refuses to argue her position eloquently or in any rational manner. Like someone pointed out, the rules say that you need to be able to back up an argument, not just say some generalized statement.

Actually, I was referring to the off topic tangent debating the meaning of "Rebel" simply because someone made a joke that was obviously misunderstood, but that's fine.

The thread seems to be back on track.

                    Let's keep it that way.

The OP hasn't given any real proof to back up the claim made in the opening post.

So far, she is the only person with that opinion.

It's an incredibly one-sided debate, in my opinion, so it's hardly worth the 15+ pages that it has run into.

Nobody's really adding anything new when 99 out of 100 people have the same opinion, and all kinds of valid arguments and facts in their favour, but the 1 person left has a different opinion without a shred of evidence.
