  • Europe declares vacations a "human right" - Would you pay for someone else's trip?

    http://www.ottawacitizen.com/travel/...330/story.html

Apparently, Europe is planning to subsidize vacations for people who cannot afford them because they have decided a vacation is a human right.

    HELL NO.

Anyone who agrees with this view ought to be ashamed of themselves. NO ONE is guaranteed the right to a vacation, a car, a house, a good paying job. These are things you have to EARN....as in work for them. I don't believe a government should ever do things like this.

I sympathize with people who, for all kinds of reasons, cannot travel, but you don't need to go anywhere to live a full rich life and I've yet to meet anyone, regardless of income or class, who's never taken any kind of trip, even if it's to a town a few miles away.

I really wish I was in the room when this idea was proposed...

This is one of the most retarded things I've heard lately....More to come when I'm sober.

A minimum paid time off from employment is guaranteed. Fine. Everyone gets that already.

Subsidised and/or free trips? I'm just glad to see that this is only a proposal and not in force. Yet.

That's crazy but of course that's already happening in the USA in the form of "bailouts" where we send billions to companies and then watch their executives take lavish vacations.

Well, since I'm a 5-day week worker, I'm legally required to have 28 days holiday per year. That can include staturary holidays (bank holidays and other national holidays etc). I actually get 32 days at my place, and 33 next year.

I get my holiday allocation at the start of April. I just took two weeks off and still have forty left.

I really live in the wrong country. Our government doesn't make it legally required for any company to give anyone any vacation.

Well, most places don't allow you to roll your holidays over, but my place does.

Also, I spelled statutory incorrectly. I blush.

                  Time off work yes.

Vacation well whose idea of a vacation? My idea of a relaxing time does not involve palm trees.

I don't like going to the beach. Camping lost it's luster when I hit adulthood. For me a good vacation would be driving around the country looking at odd things and meeting people.

I bet my vacation would be more expensive than some.

Here's my problem with programs like this, forgetting about whether or not they should get he vacation at all for a moment:
poor person: I have huge crushing debt or I'm behind on bills and need a little help, can I get some money

Government: well too bad you can't get any money but you can have a trip and a hotel stay on us

pp: that's really nice but could I just have the money I could pay my electricity bill and maybe actually have some decent food.

Government: nope, you have to take the vacation or nothing

pp: but I'm coming back to my same crappy life, my vacation does me no good if I have to go right back to super stress, what If I sold the plane ticket.

Government: nope that would be fraud, you have to take the vacation

anyways I think you see where I'm going with this.
