  • Schoolgirl sent home cuz skirt is too short

    http://www.thisiskent.co.uk/tonbridg...l/article.html

This girl was sent home from school cuz teachers said her dress was too short. Her father says it's ridiculous cuz his daughter is tall and that is why it's short.

I'm just wondering why all the girls aren't sent home; the schools near where I live always have girls walking there with rolled up, safety pinned and belted up skirts and dresses. Why just pick on one girl? As for saying it's to protect pupils out of school, I call bullshit. Just how does wearing a long skirt mean that a girl will automatically be protected from being assaulted?

Sensible policy to me. Hell, I went to a public school and with the skirt she was wearing, she would have been told to change or go home. Nothing shorter than a finger length from your knees was allowed. That skirt was mad short on that girl. There's no excuse for complaining about her getting sent home. There's a dress code for a reason. Girls wearing short skirts are distracting. That's not even debatable.

Same here. My school would have sent her home too. Along with any other girl who did the same. I don't see how they're "picking on one girl" if they're enforcing the dress-code policy.

Jody Parkin was among 12 pupils sent home from Hillview School for Girls
She wasn't singled out by the school.

Distracting to who? It's an all girls school. Besides, it's up to men and boys to control themselves. Would you excuse a boy who grabbed a girl's butt cuz he said, "It was her fault for wearing a short skirt?"

Where do you draw the line? With short skirts? With short sleeved blouses? With differently styled hair? I remember a lot of people getting hot under the collar in the uniform thread about not wanting to be repressed in school, and how they thought that dress codes and uniforms suppressed individuality.

That skirt is way too short for a 12 year old girl to be wearing. Boohoo. The girl is tall. So find skirts that are longer. If the school has rules about how long a skirt has to be, then they need to be followed.

And if 12 other girls were sent home for violations, then she is not singled out. I will tell you an instance of being singled out. My Senior year, I had on a button down shirt with a cami underneath. I showed very little cleavage (if you could call it that. My boobs were smaller then). I was called out by the principal and made to change. I couldn't just button up the shirt because it didn't have anymore buttons than what was buttoned up. I went home and changed. Later on, I saw bigger breasted girls who almost had their nipples showing. That was how low cut the shirts were. Were they called to change? Nope!

Only for the idiots who choose to stare. It's not a person fault who wears a short clothes that others are so perverted and illmanner they can't help but stare.

As for the girl? That skirt isn't short by any means. I've seen far far far shorter skirts on girls. It stupid for that.

But sadily, I still have to agree the school did the right thing, if it was a violation of their clothing policy.

Even if that skirt isn't short at all.

unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world-how many stories do we read every week/month about teachers having sex with students? Sadly some girls do have thoughts about their teachers, some teachers have thoughts about students-it's never a "good idea" to "fan the flames" so to speak.

I do hate the fact that student's own scarves were taken away from them for being the wrong color. That's just stupid. Its a freaking scarf. Who cares if its green instead of blue?

My guess is that so it matches. Ugh.

We had a similar issue at the all-girls school I went to for two years. Every wintertime we'd get the following message:

"Scarves need to be WHITE or NAVY BLUE. NOT CREAM or a mixture of both. If this keeps up, our priveliage to wear scarves will be taken away."

                  Breaking that down:

Staring idiot: plenty of people are able to control themselves. Male and female. Society shouldn't be required to bend to those who can't.

Skirt length in general: I'd agree with you there. I've seen far shorter skirts.

Dress code: most schools dictate that their school summer skirts and dresses are a certain length above the knees when kneeling. Or they give a maximum. The winter skirts were anything between extremely short and below the knees.

I think it's ridiculous that they sent her home for wearing the skirt that the school decided should be the uniform. She got that outfit at the school's uniform supplier and that was the size they provided to 12 year olds. Are there bigger sizes? I'm sure, but it doesn't state if they have a restriction to what sizes they sell to what ages, or if it costs more to get the bigger sizes, or what.

from the comments section-posted by a student of the school:

As someone has already said, we're now rolling or taking our skirt or dress up in order to get sent home, just because we know we will. Nobody's forces us to come straight back to school, so this is just giving students an opportunity to get out. <snip>
Also, the skirts and dress look smarter when they're short. Not short as in almost at our knickers, but around five or so inches above our knee.
this mini skirt is about 5 inches above the knee-now really should a 12 year-old be wearing something that short?

Whatever kid said that in that quote, BlaqueKatt, would end in epic fail at my old high school. Attendance wasn't either you showed up to school or you didn't. There's a "Did you show up to each class?" Each class has a certain amount of skips. So even if you get sent home, you get marked absent and can not get credit for the class.

For the "I've seen shorter skirts" crowd, just because you've seen shorter doesn't mean it's not short.

For the "Guys just need to be mature and not stare", um, if it's right there in front of me, I'm going to look. I'm not going to stare but that's like saying if a woman pulls her boobs out, a guy would be immature and a perv for looking.

How is a girl sitting at a desk going to be right in front of you? There are several other ways to look.

You know, like at the teacher when they're instructing?

Or how about in the hall when your walking. Most people look at where they walk. If your too much of a horndog to stare at a girls knees, then I'd laugh when you slam into a wall.

Seriously. It is NOT that hard to control one's urges to not stare at a girl in skirt, or a girl with short blouse.

I got singled out constantly at my 2nd high school. I don't know which teacher it was, but one of them had a serious problem with me, and kept "turning me in" to the principal because of my outfits. Oh, it wasn't even my principal, it was the one for the frosh and sophomores, because she was a woman.

By the second or third day of calls to my father, he said I didn't have to go back until he straightened that bitch out.

He asked her what I was wearing, to make sure it was what I left the house with. It was. What was so wrong about it? Well, she's so chesty and it's so tight, it's just asking for trouble......How low cut is it? Well, it's not that bad, but you can see a bit of cleavage if she bends down.....How many other girls with smaller chests, or even better, girls much larger than her are wearing stuff like that? Well that's not the point, SHE cannot be wearing stuff like this to school!

Dad threatened that if he got one more phone call interrupting his job about this bullshit regarding my clothes, he would let me keep staying at home until this "Teacher" came forward and admitted just what her problem was with me.

                            Not another call after that.

I can relate to the girl being tall; I had exactly that problem after my growth spurt. Regulation skirts looked short on me, and there wasn't a next size up cuz I was overweight and already had the biggest size. I'd stopped rolling my skirt up by then, but still looked as tho I was. -.-
