What about the kids that have a growth spurt, but the parents can't afford to go buy more uniforms?

As someone else mentioned, do they even make a size range that will fit her? She's only 12, but already almost 6 ft. That is not in the "normal" size range for that age.

Most schools, when your family can't afford something required, will give it to you for free or next to nothing.

Really? I never experienced that; and my family certainly wasn't that well off. This is also an English school; are you taking that into consideration?

Unless English schools go from R-12, since when are uniform sizes specified by age? I was fairly tall for my age at around age 12. My year 7 t-shirt was a medium and the jumper a large. I was anything but overweight at that time, it was due to my height and my broad shoulders.

If the school district can afford it. Most of the time, my state's schools can't.

I don't know about English sizing since I'm in the US.

But there are assumptions made about how big the average 12-year-old is and clothes are made accordingly.

Same with adult clothing. It's assumed that since I'm only 5ft4in tall, that I take petite clothing. However, I have a 32in inseam. I can't get into petite-sized clothing.

Australian schools just have an order form (and/or uniform shop) for parents, who can just look at the sizes available, let their child change into the samples provided, then they buy them.

What I meant was that since when do schools say "oh, we only sell <this size> to this age group"

I think that with this school, there's a specific uniform shop where you have to buy the uniform now, and there might only be a limited amount of lengths. I used to find that with uniform, but back when I was at school, the uniform was sold at other places.

It's not just uniform, either; when I buy clothes, I often find that a lot of shops just don't cater for tall people; for example, I'll try on a pair of trousers and find that they're halfway up my legs.

Maybe she could wear something underneath if they genuinely can't supply her with a longer skirt, like leggings or pantyhose?

I got to thinking after reading this thread.

back when I was in Chatholic grade school some 35 odd years ago (mid 1970's) the skirt rolling up thing was around even then. The girls had to wear a uniform skirt with a bib overall top type of outfit ( a bib type front with straps near the shest area running to the back) with a white short sleved button down shirt. The school actually considered requiring the girls to wear shorts )as in summer running around in the outdoors type) so as to cover up or not expose their underwear (or to keep the "pervy" boys from looking up their skirts)

I know for a fact that some of the girls regularly pinned up, hemmed up, or taped up the hem of the skirt. some did it only for "special" occasions for the "shock value", like for choir concerts where we all were up on a raised stage.
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

I got one foot on a banana peel and the other in the Twilight Zone.

I remember having to wear really short wrap around skirts for PE; we had to wear "gym knickers" underneath them. Why not let the girls wear shorts under their skirts so nothing shows?

Girls like to wear short skirts. Thats a fact. They should just let her do it. If a girl wants to show off for a guy they'll do it anyways. Not letting her go to school over it interferes with her education

Nothing shorter than a finger length from your knees was allowed. That skirt was mad short on that girl. There's no excuse for complaining about her getting sent home. There's a dress code for a reason. Girls wearing short skirts are distracting. That's not even debatable.
Agreed, and if that was in my school either they would've sent her home, given her internal suspension or a write up depending on the teacher(s) or vice principals that caught her.
