yup. that's the reason right there. there are people in the military that are flat terrified that they'll get felt up in the middle of the night or that they'll "catch gay" (actually heard that used once).

Yeah.....you should tell them the 1960's called, they want their ideology back.

In other words, it doesn't matter how they feel, all that matters is what's right.

Now, there I have to disagree with you. I believe in gay rights but...when it comes down to it, it's how our servicemen feel. Good order and discipline is necessary in the military. Without it, we lose mission effectiveness. If it's the difference between killing the enemy or hurting your sensibilities, I'll get ya a bandaid, ok?

That is the letter of the law... the application however is a completely different matter. The application has become that it does not matter how the military finds out, or if they even find out, they only need supsicion to begin proceedings.

If having gays is disruptive then so is having women. Inevitably there are going to be women serving some of whom the guys don't want to sleep with. Yes I know now someone will make the argument that guys aren't choosy.

Uhm yeah they are. Seriously if someone is so rattled by someone being attracted to them (but not acting on it) then they don't have the mentality to be a soldier.

A bandaid? Please. I'm sure there were servicemen who had issues (and who still have issues) with serving with black soldiers. Does that mean we should re-segregate the military? If a soldier is so homophobic that his fear and hatred of homosexuals prevents him from doing his job, then maybe he should find a new line of work.

Besides, don't feed me any lines about how our servicemen feel. I'm sure the military cares a lot about how they feel when sending them off to their 3rd or 4th year long stint overseas.

Tell you what. Once you enlist and serve time with us, then you can tell me what the military cares about.

I had no idea Hobbs was an omega level telepath, and could sense the thoughts and feelings of every man and woman serving in the military! And he gets to speak for them. Wow!

Green, I, like your Boy have made the mistake of getting caught in a game of homo chicken. As a result, I know that if I ever go gay, my man would have to be clean shaven... *shudder*

That would be a funny comeback if that was in any way what happened.

I care about civil rights and equality for all people, and that includes soldiers. Yes, becoming a soldier means giving up a lot of freedoms to the US Military. However, some civil rights are not to be infringed and that includes segregation. BTW, I feel this should be across the board for all members of the US Military, since I do not see one branch as superior to the others. Just sayin'.

When did I say one branch was greater than the other?

And where did I mention segregation?

Everyone I served with agreed don't ask don't tell was complete and utter horseshit.

                              I wasn't speaking on a low-unit level. I was speaking operationally.

                                Mod Request:

This thread could easily become heated, so we need to be careful about our tones. Please refrain from using sarcasm (even as humour) and talking about other members in the third person. Address your arguments to them directly.

                                Posting as a member now:

If you think you have greater insights into how the military as a whole thinks and operates because you're enlisted, then give us some evidence of that. I'm not saying you don't, but I'm also not going to accept your opinion over that of someone else just because you're in the airforce.
