Not necessarily. Just because one lives in a free and democratic country doesn't mean that one is free if you live in a repressive family and/or culture.

Still, they should be free to wear one if they choose to do so. Whether or not their family is demanding that they cover their heads is something not likely to be legislated away by banning a single garment.

I have no problem with people who want to wear a burka or any other type of headdress if that's what they really want to do.

The only thing I was ever annoyed at was when small groups of people were trying to have it be allowed that they can have their drivers license and other ID documents photos with them covering their face. The point of ID photos is that they can identify you if needed. If it's that much of an offense to you to have your face uncovered, then just don't apply for any sort of State or National level ID. All it's really gonna affect is you.

Beyond that, go wild. Wear a wookie costume everyday for all I care.

I don't think either of you read the quote - so I'll put it here again more prominantly.

This sartorial isolation only symolizes the whole position of women in... society as inferior beings set apart, animate chattels - valuable, but still chattels. The setting apart of women extends to every part of life: their rooms, their meals, their upbringing, their education and their medical treatment.

How can a garmant designed soley to repress a persons right to self expression - and serves constantly as a reminder that she is worth less than a man be tolerated? If women truely wanted to wear these garments they would continue to wear them indoors and at every opportunity - this is not the case.

I have worn a burka; they're hot, they limit your vision beyone what is immediately in front of you and they strip you of all individuality.

Purdah utterly restricts womens rights, movements and freedoms and the burka is the single most visible symbol of that restriction. There is no justification for its use.
