  • Study shows that younger childern lying is a good thing

    http://www.parentdish.com/2010/05/18...dy-suggests%2F

basically the study finds that even though morally lying is frowned upon, it DOES show that young childern can think "fast on their feet/brain" thus showing they have "better cognitive developement" and can develop "executive functioning"

yeah right like all of those brain dead corp type executives who either come up with "the greatest idea (scam) since time began" or procedures that drive us peons crazy didn't start out as "lie all the time" 4 YO.

    what are your thoughts??

Actually there is some validity to that article. The ability to lie is something that we all have as a defensive mechanism.

How many adults out there confronted by a (to their opinion) a really hideous baby and asked "isn't this the most precious and beautiful baby in the whole world"?

We know in our minds that the child is beautiful in the eyes of the doting parent. And perhaps with different clothing (something not recently spit up on) and a freshly wiped and cleaned face, doesn't look as horrific as the child may seem to us when we see it.

We as adults have learned that the diplomatic answer is something to the effect of "That is a very striking baby." or something equally non-specific but appeasing to the ears of the mother.

Whereas a child will embarrass the living hell out of us by stating (and usually very loudly) "That's a really ugly baby!"

And that's when we have the little chat with our children about how honesty is the best policy...but that we need to learn tact and diplomacy.

Which involves half-truths and at time downright lies.

So while lying all the time is not a good idea for children to do all the time, it is a vital function of life and is something a child is going to have to learn unless they want to sleep on the couch for a week when they are confronted with the dreaded "Does this dress make me look fat?" question.
“There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do.” - Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor.

What i like about this study is that it's pointing out that young children do in fact lie. I'm sick and tired of hearing "He's too young to know how to lie." from parents.

and the line "Well, childern are so sweet and INNOCENT" yeah just look past that little cow-eyed expression and there lurks a devious mind. just watch the "Braindead" portion of Bill Cosby's Himself concert film video. it is all TOO true
