I remember doing a school project on the Peace Movement, focusing on music. Some of the music of the period dealt unflinchingly with the Vietnam War, in ways that no doubt offended people or "made them uncomfortable".
Some folks even think WWII is "too soon" to be basing cosplay off of:

Personally, when it comes to my art and writing, I can't pretend that 9/11 never happened. Not when it comes to my subject matter- you see, ever since I was a kid, I've been drawing skyscrapers as people, and writing about them. In that kind of world, trying to pretend 9/11 never happened would just not make sense. So I'm working on a story that honestly deals with it. Does that mean I'm being disrespectful? Or is it that my art is reflecting real life, and I'm processing the events in a way that my creative mind can wrap itself around?
I've got a tribute piece of art I did, depicting the Twin Towers in anthropomorphised form as angels. You can see the unfinished versions here:

I'm actually thinking of re-doing them, decorating their robes with their unique architectural motifs- those gothic arched columns at their roofline and bases.
I confess- I have actually thought of doing a real-world version of these guys as a Samhain outfit, if I could find a partner. Act of disrespect or creative tribute?
