Do Shows Like Family Guy and South Park Sometimes Go Too Far

I'm pretty over South Park....it gets a little too political and too current news and just...odd. Not even really that funny anymore.
I highly doubt it would happen because both shows have been on for so long, but if either were ever pulled or cancelled because of being too "offensive", I'd have to body slam somebody.
There have been times where even I, one of the most offensive and rude and crude people, have done the at Family Guy.....it was the episode where Stewie was playing Marco Polo with Hellen Keller. But after a few seconds, I was bursting out in laughter. It's so wrong, it's funny. That's the point.

I sat slack-jawed at the same epi at first, but then was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe.

I like both shows the only thing that bothers me is that if I admit to liking the shows suddenly people act like I am a slackjawed idiot.
They can't grasp the fact that someone who has read Twain, Dumas, etc can also like low brow entertainment.Jack Faire

Basically the shows with the widest demographic appeal.
The more specific the show the more narrow the audience. Shows like South Park and Family Guy are attempting to appeal to the majority audiences.Jack Faire

Sigh.
Yeah both of these shows push the limits but you know what I'm glad to see someone is pushing the limits instead of being super pc about everything, like another thread mentions on here. Some of it makes me go eeeeuuuwww but then I can close my eyes till they get past it or not watch it or whatever. Or just deal.
And yeah you have to be fair they make fun of EVERYTHING so it's fairhttps://www.youtube.com/user/HedgeTV

So if something is popular its low brow? What if something starts off popular and loses its popularity, its suddenly high humor?
I wouldn't call South Park lowbrow because the show has a point and tries to change viewpoints. It is certainly crude, but ever since the first few seasons the crudeness is part of the message or against their ever present battle against censorship. Rarely are the episodes completly pointless, more often its illustrating some sort of point that the creators disagree with.

You seem to think low brow is bad?
Me I don't. I think somethings that are hi brow and made for a very specific, elite or pretentious audience don't necesarily have the point or make it well.
Yes I think being popular to a wide demographic shows that something is low brow because it is using cruder methods so that it appeals to a larger audience.
Dinosaurs was most definitly a low brow enttertainment show however each friggin episode was a social commentary.
It's about appealing to a wider range of people. If your appealing to specifc tastes then your high brow if your appealing to general tastes most people share your low brow regardless of having a message or not.
None of this is bad and even low brow entertainment is more complex than it's predecessors of previous years.

I recall a certain Family Guy special where Seth was interviewing people and asking them what they think of Family Guy.....I'm not sure if these people were paid to pretend they hate it or if they really did, but everyone he interviewed pretty much said "I think this show is pointless" or "Why is the baby in the show so evil?"
I have gotten locks of flack for being a fan of Family Guy, mostly from coworkers, but they were the uptight "I don't watch TV, I READ!" type of people, or the "intellectuals" who only watch educational and valuable TV, whatever that is.
