Them driving slower isn't going to trip me up because I am not going to do everything but watch the road.

I can't think of any car here built within the last 10 years that would qualify. When my kids got their licenses the two older qualified before the restrictions but my two sons had/have to operate under the states restrictions for new/learning drivers but it doesn't say what they can or cannot drive.
My oldest got one speeding ticket and I dropped the hammer and as far as I know she's not even got a parking ticket since. Middle daughter like her mother has a problem with the red-light cams and has had to pay several fines. Now my oldest son I knew was going to be a problem with speeding and being reckless. I set him down one day tried to make him understand his mortality and so far he's not had any problems with the law. He did run off the road one day and hooked his right front tire in a culvert and yanked the whole front suspension out of it. Luckily it was easyily rebuilt he also learned trying to open a plastic bottle of soda at the wrong time can lead to expensive repairs and long long walks.
My youngest son got a speed-trap cam speeding ticket doing 41 in a 35. Had he not told me of it the next day he'd be afoot right now. I still have over 3 years before my youngest starts driving if she does.
Now all that being said all my kids grew up driving something be it a quad-bike, golf-cart, lawn-mower, farm-tractor, farm truck, etc., They can drive from a techincal aspect I fear for the world when my nephew Jack gets on the road. That boy only knows two speeds stopped and full-throtal with your hair on fire.

If I figure correctly isn't 110kp/h around 70mph? How closely is that enforced in say rural areas? Locally our interstates are posted 65 or 70 mph but even in most cities it's not enforced unless you draw attention to yourself. Myself I regually drive 80mph on the interstate with the cruise-control on but on city and secondary roads I drive what's comfortable for the car I'm driving. I also have a habit of avoiding manhole-covers, pot-holes, etc., to the point that I've been pulled over a few times for suspission of drunk driving. When I explained the LEOs understood. Bad roads are hard on a car's suspension.

Ok10kph is not significantly slower, it's average walking speed, and all P platers have a red and white "P" plate displayed in both the front and back windscreens and as Jackfaire said, if you can't see and realise that a car in front of you is going slower, you shouldn't be driving.

Yeah, it's about 70mph, in rural areas most local cops let it go unless you're going significantly faster, most places cops let you get away with 5k's in urban areas and around 10k's in rural.

Unfortunately, that's usually what happens. I have no problem with an idiot removing *themselves* from the gene pool. They chose to be an idiot, they paid with their life. But, what about the innocent person they hit? Why should they lose their life because someone couldn't handle the raw power of a Porsche, Corvette, Mustang, or other powerful car?

Again, it happens more than you think. Not too far away, there's a scrapyard...which has *several* wrecked Mustangs, Firebirds, and Camaros. All of those were probably bought for newly licensed drivers. I don't know about the rest of you...but that's *exactly* the kind of car that they *shouldn't* be owning right off the bat. They should have to get some experience first before they're allowed to be behind the wheel of one of those things. But, there's no prohibiting them...at least in Pennsylvania. No wonder that insurance premiums on those cars (as well as younger drivers) are higher.

In fact, I got to see an idiot in a Mustang get into serious trouble tonight. Seems he was speeding along Route 51, and took the turn to one of the side roads a bit too fast. The car slid across both lanes, took out the stop sign and guardrail...and nearly fell into the creek below I'd hate to think what the outcome would have been...had someone been sitting at the stop sign!

I can understand why people would think of sports cars as a status symbol. But I would like a sports car because its pretty, not because it means I can afford a sports car.

I'd much rather get an old car from the sixties or something. Then have it refurbished. Because those cars are pretty. If they made cheap pretty cars these days, I'd buy those.

This has very little to do with the rest of the thread. I just got offended recently when I said I liked a car, and somebody said that only people with small penises drive those cars, and that if I want it I'm an elitist asshole. It just looks pretty, I tells ya.

Admittedly, I don't have a particularly large penis, but I don't much care about my penis size. Its a silly thing to worry about.

My dream car happens to be a sports car but I don't care what other people think I want it because it is sleek and pretty and small.

I'm sure the young drivers getting rear ended because they are forced to drive below the speed limit will take solace in the fact that the other driver was at fault. I'm sure the knowledge that somebody else caused the accident will help them through their months of physical therapy and help their parents pay their medical bills.

I have a sports car. A 1969 MGB GT, fact. Been in the family since new, had it restored, did much of the work myself...etc. I own it, simply because I like how it handles, and is a hoot to drive. Plus I enjoy getting my hands dirty and working on older vehicles. It's fun and relaxing to drive--it seems my problems go away when I'm in that car.

Even though the MG isn't the fastest thing out there, I've had people make similar claims. To them, I say that if I was compensating for something....I'd have bought a Corvette. That usually shuts them up

Oh, and another thing...a bright orange MG (at least locally), turns more heads than most Corvettes

Ooh ooh ooh, I know this game, it's called the drama queen game, let's make outrageous statements to hide behind, first off yes, the other driver is at fault, that means that their MANDATORY third party insurance will cover all medical bills up to $10,000,000 (I may be wrong, it may only be $1,000,000) secondly, we're talking 10kph about 6 miles an hour, WALKING speed! it's a fricking bump if contact even occurs, it's basically one person doing 65mph the other doing 70mph, yes months of physical therapy from that accident, you don't even get whiplash from an accident with speed that little in differance and whiplash, unless you're milking the system, usually doesn't even require anything more than maybe a session or two with a therapist of some type.

Oh and Protege, that's because MG's are classy.

I'm pretty sure if somebody rams you at 70 miles per hour you will get injured. Maybe in make believe land where facts don't matter as much as blind voter approval this law makes sense but in the real world it puts people in danger for no reason other then a politician randomly decided people aren't allowed to drive the speed limit despite the fact that sceience says that you should.

Nope, if somebody hits you at 70 mile per hour you will get dead, but we're not talking about that, do we need a basic maths lesson, one car going at 70 mph, another going at 65mph in the same direction, if the car going at 70 mph hits the other car, what speed is the impact, 70-65=5! a 5mph bump, hitting a person with no car around them that hardly leaves a bruise, and again, if you're reaction time is so bad that you can't brake in time not to hit someone when you're effectively doing 5mph then you shouldn't be on the road, hell, you probably shouldn't be walking because you won't have the reaction time to not walk into that person standing still 20' in front of you.

Isn't it 20km below the speed limit that is considered dangerous and so is illegal?
In that way, 10km below is slightly slower, but not as dangerous as people are making out. When I was on my P's, I had to abide by those rules, and as long as you stay in the left lane (the slower lane) then there is no problem. If someone hits them from behind, then they're (the other driver) is at full fault. Stupid drivers just shouldn't be on the road.

As to powerful cars being banned, I'm all for it. Unless you have the experience then you shouldn't be allowed the power.

My own brother managed to, get this, roll his Skyline while still on P's (we save up for all our cars).
We still don't know how he managed that.
