thought about putting this in "check this out" but figured it would be better here.


The student had been in high school for 6 years and was now 21 years old.

They gave her a "last chance" and she still continued to skip school, missing over 90% of her classes However, she still was given a diploma.

Apparently the school pressured the teachers (with threats of bad recommendations if they didn't cave in) into giving her Ds instead of Fs.


So apparently you CAN sit on your ass and do nothing and still graduate high school.


God help anyone stupid enough to hire her, because her attitude was [sic]: "There wasn't no problem. I just didn't go."

Anyone with that attitude is NOT going to be someone worth hiring.

Great. I knew a high school diploma was pretty much worthless these days but this really proves that anyone can get one.

What's sad is that is still more honest than my high school was.

If people were bad students they would just have them take classes that were labeled English, history, etc the "same" classes we were all taking but taught as if they were still in elementary school instead of teaching them anything new or expecting them to learn given Bs and As and then sent off to college.

I saw many of them at the community college I went to having to take remedial courses just so that they could get to the point where they would be able to take college level courses.

Really? That's your statement? Could you make an attempt at all to try to not sound so ridiculously racist? White people get free passes all the time. See: the majority of my graduating high school class four years ago. The majority were as dumb as bricks but passed somehow (a.k.a. no one wanted to deal with the parents). And they were white.

Wow. I hadn't clicked the link yet, but I was hoping she wasn't black for exactly this reason.

You think this is new? You think only black people get this treatment? Having been told something similar to what Arcade Man D stated, and having heard from other teachers who were told the same, by WHITE parents, your "guarantee" doesn't hold much water.

White kids can't pull the race card. For all the supposed white kids skipping 90% of their classes and still graduating I'm not seeing many examples. It must happen so often with white people that its not news worthy and the only reason it was reported in this case is because everybody was suprised a nonwhite was allowed to do it.

The only mention of race I see is from you, so who is "pulling the race card"? Then there's the fact that you're acting like ONLY black kids get away with this.

Ugh. I've heard of kids being passed on to the next grade for less stigma and other bullshit reasons, but a girl getting straight F's and has a 90% truancy rate who still got her diploma is just plain bullshit! That's giving a free pass to failure in life and for her to expect to get a free pass in anything!

Exactly. This shit has *nothing* to do about skin color. You'd be surprised at what some schools let students get away with. Letting poor students pass happens pretty often in white, suburban schools, actually. How do I know this? Simple. My dad's an English teacher. He's had a few instances of having to deal with parents who are upset because Junior can't write essays worth a damn. Somehow it's *his* fault that their kid isn't doing his homework. Usually, when he shows them the grade book, and they see all the zeros, that's enough for them to back off.

Oh, and it's not just the academics that has parents pissed. He actually quit coaching (and refereeing) soccer after too many dealings with entitled parents. They'd get upset because their precious child wasn't playing constantly. Usually, there was a *reason* their kid wasn't playing. Simply put...the kid sucked at soccer

I don't see that happening being mentioned anywhere in the article. Point it out for me if you do.

Maybe they are passing people because if a school fails too many students, they get less funding? So white/black/aqua/pink/whatever skinned people get passed regardless of real grades/attendance so schools can keep getting money.
