I hope you can see how it might have been better if you had also added that thought in this thread, though.

Some who were already disgusted and disillusioned by your comments here may not have bothered to read a second thread on a similar topic, and would not be aware that you had softened your militant stance just a bit.
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Smiley. I held back making any comments.

      You calm down enough thankfuly.

I want you to know that I love you as a close friend. *hugs*

      I'll defend your views.

Even if they are consumed by irrational hatred.

You were attacked for your sexuality. I was attacked for various reasons. Nether of us is worst off.

My own mind is torn between all consuming hatred for all people, and wishing I could make a bomb, or a disease, or an epidemic, or something that would wipe all people off this planet. Only in death are we all equal finally.

The other side? The urge to want to right the wrongs of everyone, to force equal rights views on everyone. Is it wrong to force someone to change their views? Yeah. It is. I'm more then willing to take that anger and hatred of others, if it means that all people can view cultures, races, sexuality, livelhood is just as good as another person if they do not cause harm to another. (So rape and murder, torture is just as wrong as ever).

Again though, you are calm now. You see the slight error in your thought, even if you don't belive it yourself.

Think it about this another way, and parden me of you answerd it already.

How would you feel if say, Fred Phelps stayed at your hotel? Would you quit? What if any of your hotel chain (I'm assuming it's a chain) allowed any member of the Westboro Baptist church, or in my state, Oregon Citizens Alliance (Which is a big joke here. They're attempts of spreading gay hate has been been defeated time and time again) stayed there? Your accepting their business, and letting them have an enjoyable time. Sure, they are giving you money, but what if it's because they rent a hall or going on a business trips to spread more gay hate? Your helping them then.

You also can't move. So you do know that others can't just quit a job. Here in Oregon? Your lucky if you can get a job. We have a very very high unemployment rate right now. To quit a job? That's just dumb, even if its because of a corporate view.

I don't belive in giving food stamps to people that obviously don't need it. I don't belive in selling beer to people who are dying of alchole poisoning. However, Plaid feels that I must accept the entire families, with each member from dad, mom, son, daughter, baby, having their own $200 dollar foodstamp card, to buy as much junk food as possible. Meanwhile, I must call police on any homeless person attempting to salvage food out of the garbage to eat. That is a world of wrong that people need it are refused, while spoiled asshole brats get as much as they want.

I know you can't move. I know you won't shop at Target. That is fine.

But don't spread hate to people that are just trying to survive. They share your views too, but they need to support their families too.

And there is the key word. Assume.

Given your emotional state regarding this issue, had I posted something defending the views of the person that Target and Best Buy (having finally read that post) donated money to, would you be inclined to read anything that I posted from then on?

I saw another post by you that looked to have a similar flavor and I chose not to read it.

So I missed where you are trying to soften your views. My apologies.

pssorens, I had heard about that, and it seems rather hollow. At no point did the CEO admit he was wrong, just that it affected people in ways that he had not anticipated. I've given that kind of apology to my mother before, and her response has always been "thank you for telling me you are sorry you got caught, now come back when you are actually sorry about what you did".

No, I do not know the CEO, so I can't say for 100% certainty that is what he did, he may genuinely be sorry, but that's how it reads to me... sounds a bit like "okay, I said I'm sorry, now will you shop with us again?"
The true tragedy in all this, if you look at MN Forward, they don't have a bad objective, but they are tainting everyone involved by refusing to get rid of Tom Emmer, as long as he is still with them they will be seen (and rightfully so) as supporting a homophobic agenda.

A flip side to all of this.

Having several gay friends, I do understand your point of view. That Tom Emmer and his opinions are very adversarial towards the LBGT community and really needs to let it go and accept that Gay Rights are going to happen and within my remaining lifetime. Likely sooner.

Please note that I'm not saying that he has to accept the LBGT community, after all he has the freedom to think as he wishes, but that he just needs to stop being a militant douche about it.

              But...

              Circuit City is dead
Radio Shack is an overpriced joke hanging on by a thread
Best Buy paid money to Tom Emmer
Walmart is an evil, soul killing corporation
Target gave money to Tom Emmer
KMart is now owned by Sears so their stores are either overpriced or are run-down places with third-rate merchandice which would be a rip-off at a third of the price
              Amazon.com has people protesting them
Heck! My hospital was assimilated by a chain that many consider to be the "Death Star" of hospital groups.

I would be hard pressed to find any company that has not had some group with their panties in a twist (perhaps rightfully as in the case of the ones giving money to Tom Emmer, perhaps not) about the way that they do business.

Short of giving up all the modern conveniences and living the monastic life of a hermit out in the woods (Oops, can't do that, Alcoa = evil tree killing bastards), where can one go to get the things that they need to live in 21th century Society?

Yeah, so the apology may be a "Sorry I got busted" type, but at least they got the message that we're watching their asses and they know that we can hurt their stock options. Perhaps they may think twice in the future about doing something this stupid.

Besides. As a former MN citizen I looked into MN Forward. They *are* running with good ideas. Perhaps we can direct some of this energy and join me in a letter writing campaign to MN Forward letting them know that while we do not object to what they are doing, perhaps they need to re-evaluate Tom Emmer's place in their organization.

I'd be more pissed that they were donating to a man that wanted to make sure employee rights were getting stripped. At least it's more accurate to the agenda.

Well not having seen all the details of that merger, my statement is based on the fact that most every K-Mart in all the areas I've lived or previously have lived are now all Sears Home Essentials now, or seem to be neglected and run down as if they were the bastard step-child of the merger.

So it is easy to make that mistake.

And in either case, it does not invalidate my point. As a Sears Home Essentials they are very overpriced for appliances that you are hard pressed to find some willing to service (no one in my area will touch a Kenmore appliance with a 12-meter cattle prod), overpriced for the non-appliance merchandise, or if it is still a K-Mart branded store, is rundown, dingy, and selling Emerson electronics at the same prices that I'd expect to pay for a quality brand like Sony, Sharp, JVC, etc.

Because Amazon.com is often considered to be the Walmart of the online world since they decides to go away from selling just books and other media.

Now they are selling all sorts of items and at prices that have attracted much ire as being as destructive to smaller local stores as the local Walmart is.

I just find it odd, this coming from Minnesota though. Call me an ignorant hick who doesn't watch enough TV, but I could have sworn that Minnesota was a huge melting pot and full of diversity and quite liberal.....sure there are some backwoods areas just like in Wisconsin, but I thought the majority of the state would be more pro-gay rights, considering Hennepin Avenue in the Twin Cities is FULL of gay bars and drag shows. Places that hate gays won't have bars like that.
Minnesota is quite liberal. We have a few areas that are very conservative. Olmsted county, which is my county generally votes conservatively. Plus, these companies said they are voting for economic and job growth and they feel that these certain candidates can obtain them for Minnesotans.

That's always what happens. Companies that can adapt to become more efficient usually stay in business, or even become bigger businesses. Those that can't...usually aren't around very long.
