More likely they hi the switch to 4WD then think they're invincible and completely disregard the rules for winter driving.

Ahh yes, the false security that "If I have a big SUV, I will be able to get through anything in the snow!"

Or the retards that think 4 wheel drive solves all of winter's problems. Well, 4 wheel drive does NOT mean 4 wheel stop. Ice doesn't care what you're driving.

In fact, I feel safer in a small or mid size sedan than I would in a big truck or SUV in bad winter conditions.

Not to mention that if you're a shitty driver, it doesn't matter a bit what you happen to be driving. Just cuz you're in a fourbyfour doesn't mean that your shitty driving will magically metamorphise into great driving.

And yeah; once you hit ice, and start to slip, the weight of what you're driving will be a liability, whereas you might be able to save a smaller, lighter car from crashing.

Ugh, I can't stand the majority of SUV drivers. If you have to load tons of stuff all the time, that's fine. If you do a lot of off-road stuff, that's fine.

Otherwise, I don't see any reasoning for it. Wtf do you need an SUV for when you just drive from point A to point B every day in suburban areas? Normal sedans have plenty of space for an entire family. Nor does it make you awesome.

And don't get me started on parking garages. I can't stand trying to go around in one when a bunch of SUVs block your sight.

I don't even agree to that one. There are far better choices in range of pickup trucks and minivans.

The same people who insist on having SUVs are probably the same people who load their kids into buggies the size of Mini Coopers. They think that big automatically means better.

I don't hate the vehicles themselves, they can be useful in some situations. But yeah, most people who have them aren't using them for those purposes! Just like BMWs, they're just status symbols. The attitude of most of the drivers says it all, like entitled soccer moms and dickless men who use them to bully people on the road. Around here at least, many of these people don't know how to maneuver or park them either!

As far as environmentalists are concerned, they're stupid to think that anyone will take them seriously when they set fire to a car and cause more pollution!

What bugs me about those vehicles...is that yes, they might be bigger. But, the rear-seat legroom usually leaves something to be desired. Take my mother's Saturn Vue, for example. I hate riding in that thing on long trips. There's nowhere to put my feet! Plus, even with the front seat moved up a bit, my knees tend to cramp up. Sorry, but no thanks. I'll take the back of a car any day.

                      Ah, SUVs.

When my Florida grandparents bought a boat, they needed something bigger to haul it, so they traded their car for a very nice Rendevous. They also needed a vehicle that was high up, because neither of them could get out of a very low car easily. After Pop died, Grandmommy needed a smaller vehicle to get around- she just couldn't drive that tank. My family bought it from her.

It's been very nice for car trips, although since the Saturn and Toyota went south, we had to start using it as our Vehicle A. It's the first time we've had power windows and electric locks. Plus, we can take out the middle seats and I can sit in the back, which is heaven for my bad knee.

But the very, very, very best part is this one intersection. It's 4 way, but after the intersection Walkwor Rd. becomes a residential street with very little traffic. So most people driving Walkwor are left turning onto Lestent. The people on Walkwor have a stop sign, with a sign under that saying "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop." They assume it's a four-way stop, so the people on Lestent see them stop, continue, and they pull out. Slam on breaks, accidents ahoy.

But when they see us driving our tank and not stopping, they sort of get the idea.

THAT is why I don't have a problem with SUVs. Drivers, yes. But I have a problem with most drivers anyway.
"So, my little Zillians... Have your fun, as long as I let you have fun... but don't forget who is the boss!"
We are contented, because he says we are

I own a Bravada which is an Olds. It is an Suv.. why do I drive it living in the city?
I drive it because it is easier for me to get in and out of,
it is also easier for me to get my baby out of
it is easier for me to drive
I do carry stuff around some times
I feel more comfortable driving it then a small car and i am more comfortable driving it in the snow. I learned to drive in the snow in a 4x4 truck I know how the larger vehicles react in the snow and I am not stupid enough to think bigger means safer as ice is ice and it fucks everyone's world.

I would gladly switch to a mini-van as soon as someone is willing to buy me one lol. I doubt I will ever buy a car again. They are hard for me to get in and out of.

I have a Mazda Tribute. Small SUV.

Got it because we do like to take things to the dump, get new bushes for the garden, and get lots and lots of groceries, plus keep some larger items in the trunk for storage (like camp chairs and the such).

Also? My husband could fit into it quite comfortably. He doesn't have to lower himself. (He might be "only" 5'10" tall, but he's gone from 480 pounds to roughly 350 pounds in 8 months).

He drives my 2000 Honda Civic to work. He's broken the driver's seat down so badly that I can't (at 5'3") see over the damn steering wheel (and no MIL, I seriously doubt a pillow on the damn seat is going to cause me to be able to see over the wheel). Also, when he was at his heaviest, the way he'd have to get out of the car made my car look like it was giving birth to him. (He'd have to back out, and do a wriggle dance to get out of it, but because it gets better gas mileage than our Mazda (which get approximatly 17 mpg), he insists on driving my poor little Honda).

                          *le sigh*

I try to be responsible with my little SUV. However, since it's the one I'm stuck with during the day to run errands and such, I have to use it. I don't let it idle too much, and I combine my errands so I'm not running all over creation every day wasting gas and emitting whatever else into the air.

Honestly, I'm finding these "why do you need an SUV" statements to be a little strange. Do any of you guys making these statements have *only* the things you need in life? To look at it from another angle, does anyone really need a sports car?

You probably do have a point about pollution, though, since many SUVs aren't that fuel efficient. However, some of them do get pretty good mileage. Also, if I'm driving all over creation in my Chevy Cobalt, while someone with a Ford Explorer drives fewer than 100 miles per week, are either of us really significantly harder on the environment?

The Cobalt could be driven 200 miles a day while the Explorer could be driven a mile a month and people would freak out about the environment killing SUV hogging up the road.

I currently have a full-sized Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. I would love to be driving a Honda or something else gas friendly again. I have the truck for multiple reasons.

I'm a computer tech and need something to haul the equipment I service back and forth. Some of the big ass printers won't fit in a little normal car or sometimes have to haul more than will fit in the back seat.

The other is, one of my clients has a branch 60 miles away and requires going up and over a mountain pass to get to. When it snows in the winter, the only way the NHP will let me over is if I have 4 wheel drive and proper tires and/or chains.

As a result, the truck has become a necessity. It would be nice if I could afford a second car for normal driving, but I can't.

Now as far as other gripes and bitches about them, I agree. SUVs have become the new minivan which became the new station wagon. Also, their popularity has soared because of their cost. When you're in a "normal" compact car, it's difficult to see around some of these big ass vehicles.

                                Trendiness overrules common sense.
