The one thing I will say to that is that in the future, it may be better to write down "cash" on the tip line so that the server knows that you aren't stiffing them when they run your card. It shouldn't make any difference in how they treat you, but I can understand how seeing a 0 tip might make a server a bit twitchy.

It was still inappropriate on the server's part. Twitchy or not, it's not good service to ask about a tip. Besides which, I know that servers at that restaurant make at least minimum wage ($8/h), if not $1+ more, which is the average wage around my area, as far as I'm concerned tipping in BC is just a courtesy of the customer, as opposed to being necessary to boost the wages to at least minimum. I'm sorry, but when a server is making the same wages as other service jobs tips are extra money, they're nice to have, and can be a huge help, but they aren't part of your regular wages. I have worked a tipped job, this is exactly how I saw my tips.

(please remember that this only refers to my area, and that unless the service is horrendous I always tip)
