What really gets me hot and bothered is when a violent criminal is released back into society, he (or she) must go back to the county wherein the crime was originally committed.

Recently, a man who murdered a guy and molested a kid finished his.....maybe 10-15 year prison sentence (wow, hard time!) and he was to be released back into the same town. Townspeople picketed the property that his prospective landlords owned. He still got to move there anyway.

How much do you want to bet anyone who was close to that case either has to move away or change something in their life to make sure they never have to see him again?

Fuck that. Make the PERP move away and start over. It's about damn time that victims* got to stay and keep their lives normal, instead of them always having to either move or drastically change their life to make it seem normal again.

    * Victims meaning anyone directly related to the case or to the actual victims of the criminal

They actually did that with the Westside shooters. They were given new identities with clean records (since they were imprisoned as juveniles) and told to stay the hell out of the state. Frankly, it was for their own safety. Of course, neither of them followed that and one is already back in prison.

One of James Bulger's killers is back in prison for possesion of child porn. He had also received a new identity. Now he's apparently on his third.

Also, two quotes regarding the Jonesboro case:
The Jonesboro prosecutor later stated that were it not for their ages, he would have sought a death sentence for the pair.
"This is a case where the punishment will not fit the crime."
The second quote is dead on...

Oh no, I'm not in favor of giving violent criminals new identities. Just to GTFO of where they committed their crime and hurt people, to be forced to move somewhere new and have to start over from scratch and rebuild their life. Too bad if it's hard to find a job or be able to have a fresh start. Can't do the time, don't do the crime. Part of "the time" also means the aftermath of crimes you commit, don't forget.
