I really didn't think it could happen here. I thought we were past the days of slavery and indentured servitude. But here's a couple of guys who did basically that.

You'd be surprised at how often it goes on. Part of the training I go through is yearly Human Trafficking. It involves being able to recognize it when it's going on. It's much more common in porn and prostitution. Women and kids get forced into doing it.

We live in a pretty fucked up world.

It's very frequent and a lot more common than you think. A number of adoption agencies dealing in foreign children are actually no better than human smugglers, not just to get children out of a country, but also to get them into their destination country. No health or security checks done, they don't care how the children get from point a to point b, so long as they get their money. (and this is even worse when it's countries that have legal procedures to allow adoptions.)

There are billboards all over Las Vegas, mainly around the airport, that warn you about the risk. It's one of those things you don't expect to be a problem here in the US, but sadly it is.

There was a special on E! a while ago about stories like that. It does happen here. It's just not talked about the way it should be. I didn't even realize how often it happens here and how young some of those girls can be until I watched that special.
