  • Boy cheerleader gets arm broken by bullies

But it wasn't until mother went to school to discuss this bullying that she learned the boys who beat up her son had tried the same thing the previous Friday & Monday

    Why wasn't the mother told?

And I've heard of male cheerleaders. It's not like male cheerleaders have never been heard of. They're in college cheer teams.

What is the world coming to?

People tend to think that male cheerleader= gay. In fact, in my high school, we had a rival high school with a male cheerleader and everyone was yelling "faggot" or "gay" at him. It's really frikken sad that 1)people even beat others up in the first place 2) people assume that a male cheerleader is gay.

On an unrelated note: my spellchecker doesn't recognize the word 'faggot' as a word! Yay for small victories!

Kristy Wilson says if she had known Tyler was being physically targeted she would have stepped in to stop the situation, and would have gone as far as removing him from the school.

"I really wish the school would have let me know a lot sooner, so I could have dealt with it sooner,"

this bothers me-why should the victim have to, in essence "hide", shouldn't the kids that attacked him 3 times maybe be dealt with? It is not the parent's job to keep her child safe while a school-that is the job of the school employees-who obviously did not do their job or take bullying seriously at all...and now a kid got hurt-I hate to say it but I hope she goes after the school for his medical bills....

Actually, the first cheerleaders were male.

          http://ezinearticles.com/?History-of...ding&id=748811

It wasn't until later on that cheerleaders became female sex symbols.

And I don't mean to make light of this, because what happened to this boy is very terrible, but who wants to bet that in a few years' time one of those bullies will end up coming out of the closet?

Sadly, I could see something like this happening 40 or 50 years ago too. In this case, I don't think it's what the world is "coming to", just that the world hasn't changed as much as it should have.

would have thought that a male cheerleader would join for the want to be athletic but not quite as "violent" or physical as football. and when the handstands are done to be able to see up the girl's skirts? *begin sarcasm* yeah thats gay alright. *end sarcasm*
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"
              Yeah we're so over, over
Things I hate, that even after all this time...I still came back to the scene of the crime

One encouraging thing: when I was in school, there was a hard-and-fast rule that anybody involved in a fight in any way was punished. Apparently, in this case at least, only the attackers are, which is as it should be.

Football is way more "gay" than cheerleading. Guys going around grabbing each other's asses.

Whereas one, maybe two, maybe three guys surrounded by girls in short skirts. Oh, that's so gay.....not.

So you have to type out "bundle of tied up wooden sticks" each time? Man that sucks.

I remember reading 'Good Omens' when that word came up. The protagonist was trying to get into an army base by presenting his witchfinder ID to an American soldier. The soldier pointed to a word he recognised and said 'it says here I've got to give you faggots.' The main character said 'oh we have to have them, we burn them.' the soldier brightened at that, he'd thought that thr English were soft.

Pretty minor victory though, considering it took a broken arm and the parent coming in only to find out that it wasn't the first time. That says to me the school didn't give a damn until the parent got involved.

Sadly, this is how it's always been. Sometimes, the school will even say crap like, "Maybe --- shouldn't make himself/herself a target" or "--- should just ignore the bullies", as if it's the victim's fault that they got bullied in the first place, and as tho it's up to the victim to make it so that the bullies won't target them.

^story of my life right there! When I got picked on, it was always "my fault". Just ignore them, stay away from them. Because heaven only knows they're not going to escalate the abuse and harassment to unbearable levels when they get ignored, and they're not going to hunt you down and follow you when you try to avoid them.

For me it took a group of four boys a year older than me jumping me while I was walking past a construction site near my home, throwing me against a piece of equipment and getting ready to beat me using a metal trash can that was at the site. The only reason they didn't go through with it was a cop car drove past. And even then all the school and the police did was "talk" to their parents. The school encouraged my mother not to press charges because they wanted to handle it internally... no need to ruin those boys futures (or the school's reputation) because of one minor indiscretion. Had we known that their idea of taking care of it was to ignore it we would have filed charges against them and... well, I was the faggy boy, so not likely the police would have given a shit anyway (Reno is a little bit more enlightened than South Salt Lake, but this was also 14 years ago).
Since I know no one else will say it, I'll say it, we need another, bigger, Columbine. I hate the thought that there will be innocent bystanders hurt as well, but this nation needs a wake-up call and people are so far in a coma that nothing short of a tragedy of massive proportions will snap them out of it. It took the Titanic sinking to make people take ocean liner safety seriously, took TWA flight 800 to get people to take airplane inspections seriously... I had hoped Columbine would have made people take bullying and the torment of our youth seriously, but apparently 12 dead and 21 wounded wasn't enough... I don't know how many will be enough, but the sooner we as a nation snap out of our comatose state, the better.

Now, of course, I would love to have this problem solved without another tragedy... I just don't believe it is possible anymore. Right now we are dying the death of a thousand pin pricks... maybe a sledge hammer to the hand will get us to wake up before it is too late.

Wow...just wow. Does your hate know no bounds?

Oh, and for your information, the perpetrators of Columbine weren't the bullied loners the media has portrayed them as. Most school shooters don't fit this model, actually. So all that a "bigger Columbine" would do is lead to the death of innocent children. I certainly don't want that on my conscience.
