  • Rutgers Student Kills Self Over Unknowningly Taped During Gay Sex

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_1...88-504083.html

Sorry for the long title, but tough to describe in a short description. Some freshman at Rutgers that was gay was unknowingly taped by his roommate and his roommate's friend. They then posted the video on the internet for all to see.

As a result, the kid decided the best course of action was to jump of the George Washington Bridge.

    Good going assholes.

and of course you can take the pics off the web but not off of everyone elses computers. was the roomie mad that he was asked to leave the shared room because his roommate was actually getting laid?
the whole tapping sounds like it was meant as revenge. yeah "didn't think it would get this out of hand"

not that that was actually said but thats what i would imagine that person thinking.

    Yeah we're so over, over

He was probably mad because he got kicked out and probably thought gay sex is icky!

That, and as all Americans know, gays aren't people anyway... it's not as if we have feelings or even souls
These last few weeks (6 suicides in 4 weeks, plus a child with a broken arm, and that's just what has made national news) have convinced me that this nation never truly made any progress... gays are no better off now than when I was born as far as society is concerned... big whoop, we can no longer be arrested, but good luck getting law enforcement to help if we are attacked. Oh, we no longer are classified as mentally ill, but good luck getting someone to stand up to the people tormenting our youth because of their orientation. This nation and it's false hope truly sickens me.

The worst part is, the poor kid's roomate did this more than once. He even posted on his twitter account that he was going to do it, and invited folks to an iChat to watch.

It was actually multiple webcams set up around the room. There was most certainly malicious intent.

What makes someone think that it is OK to invade another's privacy to that degree? Could any of you imagine how you'd feel if you found out someone had been secretly broadcasting your sexual encounters on the internet (regardless of your sexual preference)?

I just wish the poor victim hadn't felt that jumping off the GWB was his only option. Just a sad, sad story.

yahoo news caught up with it but its more of just updating what already happened
              yahoo's version

and i didn't know there were more cam's yeah thats just....angers me. and if it was over something petty in that he was kicked out of the shared room for sex whoop te do! thats part of dorm life. yeah i know its not ok (to get ASKED to leave for a while) but thats part of life. and yes i'm sure it was also because he found out he was gay. i don't want to rant on something that no one else is sure of but for me the thought is there and I want to be judgemental on the two people responsible however that wouldn't make me any better.

still makes me furious as imo if some one were there to tell clementi that yes its very harsh now but IT DOES get better then he wouldn't have jumped but its too late now
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"

That is 100% malicious intent. I hope his roommate is prosecuted or something [sorry, I didn't actually read any of the news links, but I heard about it on FB from my LGBT Straight Alliance group ]. That's sick. Sick and cruel. And I think it would be sick and cruel regardless of whether it was gay sex or straight sex. If you don't want to be kicked out of your room because your roomie's getting laid, then you should talk about it and set ground rules beforehand [and obviously no getting laid for YOU in the room, either]. That is actually making me glad that I share a suite with 3 people, and so I actually have my own room. But anyway.

I don't know that I would say that the plight of LGBTQ people is still horrific. Yeah, really bad things still happen. I live in super conservative ID and I've had someone yell "Faggot" out of a car while I was walking somewhere. [Not that he could actually tell, since it's not like I was walking with a girl or even wearing anything rainbow. So I figure either it magically shows that I'm bi or he was making a self-declarative statement ]. But here is also a pretty cool place in some regards, as just tonight we had an LGBT night at a local coffeehouse and the owner stood up and thanked us for coming, and said that we could come anytime we wanted to!

So it's not all bad. Oh, also, that boy who was voted homecoming king but didn't get the title because he had registered at the school as a girl. Ok, yes, the school's policies sucked ass and they need to be changed ASAP...but the kid's classmates were the ones who voted him in and were the ones standing up for him afterward. That seems like a pretty AWESOME change to me.

Rutgers suicide raises difficult legal questions

What should they be charged with? Should there be a charge for hate crimes against them? There is the invasion of privacy. And New Jersey does have a few a laws that prohibit watching or taping nudity or sexual scenes without the consent of the taped party.

And in this day and age, the idea of privacy has been thrown out the window. WebCams, Video Recorders, phones with camera and video capabilities. People doing anything to get onto TV.

Should privacy laws be strengthened and more punishment be awarded due to this incident?

This is something I've been thinking about since I first heard about it. People keep wanting to label it as a hate crime, but I haven't seen or read anything that would justify that charge. The only things I can think of that they can legally get the roommate on are violations of their pornography and privacy laws. Add in conspiracy to commit charges as well, since he had publicly planned it.

What he did was childish and immature. None of his tweets or other posts showed any kind of "typical" hatred or outrage. Making this a hate crime is a very slippery slope.

I think what they're trying to find out is if the roommate knew Clementi was gay and wanted to "out" him or embarass him enough that he wouldn't be using their dorm room as the place where he was going to have sex.

Not that I agree with making it a hate crime.

The article I posted also points out what would have happened if Clementi hadn't committed suicide & just went to whatever authorities on campus. Would we have heard about it then?

No, people get outed all the time and no one gives a flying rats ass about it. Hell, the local predominant religion even condones the act (their leadership practices it, so I'd at least assume that they condone it). Hell, there is an entire industry dedicated just to the sick thrill of unearthing people's private lives.

That industry thrives because of the people that make it thrive. the people that think they have the right to know everything about celebrities and other people. As far as the ones that out those that don't wish to be outed, it's sad when one of the biggest players in that industry is one of their own.
