Wouldn't give a toss, unless he tried to follow me into a cubicle. I have three brothers and therefore, I'm used to sharing a bathroom with men.

I, too, would be mostly unconcerned to find a man in what was designated as a women's restroom with multiple stalls, were his only purpose there to use the facilities.

And, specifically, were it a single-person set-up with a locking door, who the hell cares whether the sole occupant at any given time is male or female?

A multiple-stall restroom, I would probably be uncomfortable. Particularly since I know the ones on my campus have those giant gaping holes between the door and the wall...why, I don't know, but there you have it. I also wouldn't want to go in the guys' room and see the urinals...if there were guys in there, I think they're entitled to at least the semi-privacy of not having girls gaping at their junk.

Single-person bathrooms...yeah, I've used the guys' room on occasion. Especially when I was on road trips with my ex-chorus, who were all female. If you don't want to be waiting for like twenty minutes to pee, sometimes you just gotta go in there.

Although I still remember the one with a condom machine in it...

That's what bugs me about the restrooms at my workplace. There was never any reason to specify one room for "Men" and the other for "Women". They are both exactly the same. There's not even a urinal in the "Men's" room.

Rageaholic is right about people blindly following social conventions. When both washrooms are in use, and I'm in line behind a woman, and the "Men's" room becomes free, 9 times out of 10 that woman will decline my offer to use it. So she stands around waiting while I go ahead.

It's arbitrary and pointless. And it drives me crazy
That would drive me crazy too.
If it's not a shared bathroom with stalls, what's the point in assigning gender to the washrooms?
              Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Possibly because people *expect* bathrooms to be designated one or the other, and ask which is which when they're not?

Or possibly because whoever made that decision was so used to it that it simply never occurred to them not to?

Not really. People who want to get it on in a bathroom really don't care if there's a gender designation on the door.

                  Trust me on this one.

<pictures a 20+ year old in front of the bathroom doors with no men/women signs on them and bursting out in tears. Staff member approaches and asks what's wrong, only to be replied with "I don't know which one I'm supposed to USE!!!!">

Sad part is, this image could be entirely too real.

I've actually seen some restroom signs that had more than just the single gender designation.

Me too there is a cafe nearby that has one bathroom and both genders showing on it. By the same token the grange hall nearby has two single bathrooms designated by gender.
