  • 2 year old hits on White Russian

    Just came across this one.

I thought about putting this over on CS but...

    http://www.cafemom.com/group/416/for..._Boston_eatery

one more depiction of a parent not paying attention to what their children are doing. then calling the cops to resolve the situation. then possibly getting the restaurant in loads of trouble for a possible liquior violation

Wow. So because THEY couldn't be bothered to actually watch their freaking kid [or maybe...I don't know...not order alcohol when they're out with their kids in the first place], they called the police? Because he SIPPED an alcoholic drink? Really? And tried to get the RESTAURANT in trouble? Yeah, it's all their fault, lady. It's not like you should have to watch your own toddler and make sure they don't drink that "milk." Heaven forbid you actually practice parenting skills.

Too many pages of replies over there to check them all, but it's a surprising comfort that, on the first five pages at least, nobody's taking the parents' side on this.

I agree with the manager; it's the parents' fault and if I were the cop called out, I'd be giving them a bollocking for child negligence. See how they like them apples.

Heh, I know there's nothing wrong with ordering drinks when you're out with your kids, but judging by their reaction, perhaps they shouldn't do it anymore. I still can't see ANY reason for the police to be called.

Sounds like they were so scared in getting into trouble that they called the cops on the restaurant first so they wouldn't be the ones to get into trouble.

That's kinda what happens when you don't watch your kids.

I don't think just one sip would do the kid any harm; I remember as a kid taking sips of my parents' alcoholic drinks and coming to no harm.

Yeah, one sip wouldn't hurt anybody. If my kid did that, I'd probably laugh....

Yeah, I don't think the restaurant did anything wrong, but I really don't think the parents did anything wrong either, aside from trying to put the blame on the restaurant. A kid taking one sip of an alcoholic drink once isn't anybody's fault; no parent can watch their child every second of every minute. In those few seconds that both parents were distracted, the kid got into something he shouldn't have, the parents got it away from him quickly, no harm was done. They way over-reacted in calling the cops on the restaurant, but aside from that, it was a simple mistake. It's not like they weren't paying attention long enough for the kid to drink the whole thing.

And how many times have we heard that same utterence from the mouth of SCs? I call bullshit.

How the hell is it the restaurants fault? If anything, it's the parents fault for ordering the damn drink and bringing their kids. Sure, I wouldn't say what happened was anyone's fault, nor was it a big deal, but if the parents consider it such a big deal that they would CALL THE COPS, they should have taken measures to make sure this never happened in the first place.

Sounds like they were just looking for something to get upset about.

                              I wouldn't bet against it.
