  • HS cheerleader kicked off squad for refusing to cheer for her rapist

    story here

again-rapist plead guilty to a lesser charge(assault-again yay for our justice system and plea bargins) and served no jail time, the school did not suspend him from sports because they would've lost games.

The school says the victim should have left the squad if she wasn't going to "do her job" and cheer him on, as her silence was"substantial interference with the work of the school"

She was also told to not eat in the cafeteria and to not participate in homecoming activites because "she might upset her attacker"

Contact information for the school superintendent and principal are in this article-just fyi

4chan needs to get a hold of this. Schools not punishing students who do this kinda of crap because they are athletes? Schools punishing victims?

    Nothing new here.

Quoth Dan Savage from the article:

      The American Taliban in action
No argument there. What's next, is the rapist going to ask the victim to pay his legal fees?

      Quoth from Law & Order:

It's not enough that you hang me, I have to buy you the rope?
Oh and I see the attacker had help from 2 others. What did he need them for, to hold up his noodle for him?
      Customer: I need an Apache.
Gravekeeper: The Tribe or the Gunship?

Just like the murder case going on right now nearby where I live, there were actually people who wanted to fight for the two murderers to stay in school and in hockey because they are needed on the team and they shouldn't have their college career railroaded because of one incident.

Incident? Yeah, one that left a fellow student DEAD.

Count me in on hoping 4chan gets a hold of this. This is beyond retarded.

There is literally no way they are right. Instead of common sense, they make the completely moronic decision. The clear easy decision was "Gee, he raped her and got away with it. Maybe we could cut her some slack for not rooting for his douchebag rapist ass."

Hmm, sports player gets away with crime. Where have I heard that before?

Of course the real stinker is that they only cared about their stupid school sports while considering the victim nothing more than a nusance. It's bad enough that he got off easy, but punishing the girl is just balls

Sadly, the first thing that came to my head was the Dead Kennedys song Jock-o-Rama.

This also proves that if you're a star athlete or a celeb, you can get away with a lot.

You would think there would be some code of conduct that barred that creep from participating in sports. Then again, star athletes get away with a lot.

Still, why couldn't she just skip the basketball games and cheer at the football games/other sports that utilize cheerleaders, instead of being completely kicked off the squad? This is absolutely ridiculous and infuriating. They're sending the message that not only is it okay to rape, but the victim will be the one who gets punished!

If I was on that squad, I'd join that girl and walk off, and hopefully convince others to follow me until the school rethought its convoluted policy. I hope that poor girl finds some support somewhere...

Agreed. I'd get the rest of the cheerleaders to go on strike til the school sees sense.

This is yet another case of a rape victim being punished; kind of like people saying "Well, she shouldn't have been walking down that alley/wearing a short skirt". No-one deserves to be raped; and the victim should not be made to feel as tho she's being a nuisance.

You have to remember that if cheerleading means being popular at that school, almost no one would follow you. Giving up being popular to make a stand for something ethical? Yea right.

he probably just did his frat initiation early going by what goes on in the "remind me of what year we are in" thread
if I was on the other team and knew of what he had done, I think a severe on pitch beating via the whole team would be called for, based soley on the logic that if a rapist can still play, a murderer/manslaughter is having his team fight for him then a whole team hospitalizing a rapist wouldn't have to face any consequences
edit: aside from "personal foul ten yards penalty" if it was american football and whatever basketball gives out

                        A technical foul.

I just can't believe that this school is getting away with it. Usually sports have some kind of outside governing body...it or the school board or somebody really ought to be stepping in. There are more important things than winning games.

This whole thing is bs it just proves that sports are more important to schools than anything else. IT's bad enough she got kicked off the squad...although I wouldn't blame her if she didn't want to be involved in it anymore anyway. But to keep her out of the cafeteria? cause she might upset her ATTACKER? They're worried about HIS feelings getting hurt? OMFG.

She's being shunned when it should be him.

It's still a case where he is being favored over her and it's not right. He should have been expelled. Screw the team ......they can find another player.

Keep a low profile? No doubt, many rape victims tend to keep a low profile or hide or try not to attract attention out of pure trauma from the experience, but there is no reason to expect this poor girl to have to shy away and blend in.

This fucking prick deserves to be in prison, and that girl should not have to sacrifice her own fun and hopes and dreams because of some dumb althete prick. Punishing the victims is exactly what is going wrong in situations like this. She shouldn't have to change anything, she did nothing wrong. HE did. He needs to be punished and change HIS lifestyle because he broke the law and needs to face the consequences. Innocent people, especially victims, have been through enough and do not need to be punished by having to give up things they like or quit going places or being friends with people or be forced to hide away because it makes the PERPETRATOR look bad.
